    Pot roast
    Turned out OK, needs to be tweaked a little...suggestions?
    I used a can of broth, some balsamic vinegar, salt, pepper, fennel, garlic, marjoram, merlot and a little corn starch with onions, celery and carrots. Needed a little something else just not sure what. I also just threw the onions in raw, I think I'll do carmelized onions next time.

    Only so much you can do with pot roast. Did you brown it first? I actually can't usually bring myself to eat pot roast, as we had some form of it boiled to mush in a crockpot almost every Sunday growing up. Slow-smoke it, cube it up, add bbq sauce and smoke it some more for faux burnt ends.

    Nope, didn't Brown it. Just threw everything in the crock cold.
    I'm not usually a huge fan of pot roast either - if I'm craving beef I'd rather have a nice ribeye or prime rib - but for some reason it sounded good. I do plan on making this again, just experimenting a little.

    Good to brown it first... Dust with a little flour, salt, pepper, put it in a hot cast iron pan that has a little veg oil in. Couple minutes each side. Def worth doing before putting in crock.

    And for what it's worth, I always just add a can of Campbell's COM and a can of Campbell's French onion to the crock, rub the browned roast with garlic powder, and toss in. Cook on low for 6 hours, always turned out great. If you like that sort of thing.

    Could bag the flour and COM, just helps thicken the gravy. No big to not use.

    Oops... Looks like the French onion isn't gluten free either. I think there are gluten free versions of both, so maybe try that.

    Gluten be everywhere :eek:

    The mother-in-law is staying with us and she just knocked some Christmas ham and northern white beans out of the park. She started the beans soaking last night, and boiled the ham bone for several hours today. Corn bread went along in the cast iron skillet. I hadn't had ham and beans in about 20 years. Awesome!!

    Woke up this morning with a hankering for pork chops.

    So....pan seared (nothin' but kosher salt, black pepper, and a wee spot of peanut oil to help the heat get in) for a nice nummy crust

    Sliced portabellos with a TSP of butter to brown and deglaze the pan

    Slam into a 9x13 glass baking dish. Can of cream of mushroom, 4 oz milk, a packet of the lipton soup mix thingeys, a TBSP of minced garlic...bake for ~25 minutes at 350 till the center of the chops hits 150ish

    Pull, rest a minute, they coast to about 158-160ish.
