^^I forgot to add: Rosemary works really good with lamb. The one below was done in the oven. It was rubbed with mustard and all kinds of herbs, including rosemary and thyme.

While I am on a roll here....Once you acquire the taste for lamb (be warned, you might not like it the first time), you can upgrade to a whole lamb on the spit.Plant City-20140504-00193.jpg

Pizza's on the menu for tonight! Son wants bbq pulled pork, girls want cheese, wife wants veggie, and I'll be doing a half white with garlic butter crust and half pepperoni. Oh man I'm getting hungry!
Time to roll out some dough!

You make your own jerky? I'd bring some of that bought or homemade.

lots of peanut butter? when we're backpacking we would take a bunch of banana chips and peanut butter and slather them onto bread or tortillas and have a fairly filling burrito. healthy, filling and tastes like straight sex when youre hangry. did I mention cheap and none of those things need the fridge? you can add whatever you want really. raisins, nuts, the possibilities are endless

Get a dehydrator. I made my own jerky last weekend. It is so good, and a heck of a lot cheaper.

I assume you have some sort of small cook stove, like a backpack Coleman or something. I also assume you have a small pan and a knife. And a small bottle of olive oil.

Farm fresh eggs, unwashed, will keep for many days as long as they don't get too hot. No fridge required. Hardest part is transporting, but there are many ways around that. Then have a few small onions and bell peppers and a couple hard cheeses... parm-reg, pec-rom, cotija, aged Gouda, extra sharp cheddar are a few examples.

Dice one small onion and a small bell pepper, shave some cheese, heat the pan with a bit of oil in it, sauté the veggies a minute, crack a few eggs into the pan, stir a bit, cook, add cheese just before taking out of the pan. Or make omelets.

@ryanjboutin being in the military can't you load up on MRE's? Not for all meals but may one every other day depending on length of stay then suppliement your daily with all these other suggestions, or are you trying to stay away from that type of stuff?

MREs; everything except #4 (stray animals won't eat it).

Edit - just caught up. Nevermind on the Meals Refused by Ethiopians.

#4 was the omelet. The stray cats all over Riyadh wouldn't eat it. Neither would we.

Do you have access to a commissary, or is everything on the economy? Are you doing radar work up on the north range, around Mt. Irish and such? My dad was with Lockheed and then Antech for 20 years, and built a bunch of that stuff up there.
