My grandma had a bad habit of not sharing or writing any recipes down. After she passed my dad and I looked thru everything she did write down and couldn't find most of her best recipes. The few times I was allowed in the kitchen with her, she never measured anything. She knew it all in her mind.

similar to my mom and grandma. They just mixed something up and it was edible...sometimes I would pass on certain things. ie...brussel sprouts, stuffing etc...lol Now my wife is really good cook and she throws stuff together and it comes out great. I try to get her to write stuff down but she adlibs the recipes as she goes...lol

yea. i loved my mom's(some of) food as a kid.

now? not so much. she wasnt a great cook. to this day, i cant slice into an eggplant without thinking about the abomination she put on a plate she called "eggplant surprise".

i was about 4-5. Weenie the Pooh was coming on TV. "no tv until i eat everything". lets just say, i should probably rent the cartoon to get up to speed. there was no way i was eating that gray mass of stuff.

one month later: we visit family in SF. they made eggplant which we gobbled up. she commented to her sister, "strange, i thought they hated eggplant".

i might have blurted out, "yay! auntie can cook! her eggplant doesnt make me puke" my inheritance was in danger that day.

    It was so easy.

Google America’s test Kitchen “beans and shrimp”. I followed their instructions to the letter. My wife thinks I’m a hero.

I like their recipes, HATE their website. I had to block them/remove from email list, I got spammed all the time from them. I found this
    Tuscan Shrimp and Beans

    Ingredients

    • 1 pound large shrimp, shell-on (26-30 per pound), peeled, reserving shells
    • ¼ cup extra-virgin olive oil
    • 1 cup low-sodium chicken or vegetable broth
    • 1 onion, minced
    • 4 garlic cloves, minced
    • 1 can anchovy fillets, drained
    • ¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes
    • 2 (15-ounce) cans cannellini beans (drain and rinse one can but leave the other undrained)
    • 1 (14.5 ounce) can diced tomatoes, drained
    • ¼ cup shredded fresh basil
    • ½ teaspoon grated lemon zest plus 1 tablespoon lemon juice

    Directions

Heat 1 tablespoon oil in 12-inch skillet over medium heat. Add shrimp shells and cook, stirring frequently, until they begin to brown, about 5-6 minutes. Remove skillet from heat and add 1 cup chicken or vegetable broth. Return to medium heat and simmer gently, for 5-8 minutes. Strain mixture through a colander over a large bowl. Discard shells and reserve liquid. In the same skillet, heat 2 tablespoons oil, onion, garlic, anchovies, pepper flakes, ¼ teaspoon salt and 1/8 teaspoon pepper. Cook, stirring occasionally, until onions soften, about 5 minutes. Add 1 can drained beans, 1 can undrained beans and their liquid, tomatoes, and shrimp stock. Bring to a simmer and simmer, stirring occasionally, for 15 minutes. Reduce heat to low, add shrimp, cover, and cook until shrimp are just opaque, 5-7 minutes. Remove from heat. Stir in basil, lemon zest, lemon juice. Drizzle with 1 tablespoon of olive oil if desired.

    Taco Tuesday.
    20191001_194412.jpg
Carne asada, cole slaw with cholula and chili powder, cheese and a few jalapeno slices with tortillas warmed on the grill. Side of cantaloupe and had chocolate ice cream for dessert.

Similar. That’s way too much anchovies. Use two filets. Or a toothpaste squirt of the paste. And no chicken broth. That would be way too soupy.

Glad you guys like all of the recipes in there. Some she hasn't made in years. Some just sound flat out gross. But some are simply amazing.
