I'd guess it depends on the vehicle as well. My Colorado wouldn't hold a bottle in the bed for 30 seconds, versus one time I drove 30 minutes with beer cans in the bed of my Tacoma before realizing they were there

Ya, I always wondered how some trucks looked like they had a party in the bed, while others would have shit blowing out of them in a school zone.

I'm positive that #4 doesn't exist.. asking people to pay complete attention and know their vehicle deceleration habits?? Blasphemous.

That's about the only good driving habit I have, mainly because I hate spending money on brakes.

My Dad had a Beemer with a vacuum gauge on the dash. It was a gimmick that helped me keep revs low. I keep thinking about installing one in the truck.
I used to live in Arizona as well. You don't park as close to the entrance as possible. You park in the shade! LOL

That isn't a solution, because you now can't move any cargo.

    0.25/0.25 = 100% [(0.5-0.25)/0.25]
    0.25/1.5 = 17%
    0.25/3.0 = 8.3%
Your air conditioner causes NO LESS than an 8.3% increase in fuel consumption.
    That is DEFINITELY noticeable.

Doesn't do you any good to buy a scooter when you NEED A TRUCK!

Much worse than drafting semi's.... is cutting in front of them. Or for that matter, ANY vehicle. But the bigger the vehicle, generally the harder it is to stop it, so the stupider it is to cut in front of it. It makes me pissed off from 3 lanes over to watch some dipsh** in a BMW cut in front of a semi.

I can relate to that!!! I had an S10 before (same thing). Best mileage it ever got was 22 mpg.... while it was on a flatbed trailer being pulled BY MY TACOMA.

Eh... a lot of that is actually vehicle dependent, and can be impacted by what windows you lower and how the pressures balance out. For instance, if you drop your two front windows down to the bottom, that causes a lot of air turbulence in the cab, can't be good for mileage. But if you also open the back sliding window, the air greatly smooths out. Don't ask me for numbers, but smooth flowing air is not going to hit your gas gauge as hard as huge turbulence.

Their experiment wasn't even remotely precise enough to make any conclusions based on the variations in the measurements following the experiment. Those dorF's they were driving could swing 5 mpg just by looking at them funny.

To do this kind of experiment, you really need to use a wind tunnel and give the throttle control over to a computer in order to guarantee precisely the same inputs in all runs.

Truth is, while that show was "fun", they weren't scientists. They were special effects artists. They made things go boom.

Ehm, actually... most of the energy used by the air conditioner is supplied via the BIG RUBBER BELT connected down to the pulley on the front of the engine.
