Exactly, if you going to by a GM truck; just make sure you buy new with a warranty and expect to trade in for another new one around 60k or 70k miles! That's what my neighbor does and hasn't had any problems with his last three Silverados. Buy one at 70 or 80k miles and expect to drive it to 150k+ miles, and you'll be in for a completely different experience though!

Sure would. But it's still a GM.

My best friend does the same thing. Gets a new Chevy and runs it into the ground till it hits 80k, then sells it and does it again. He NEVER has issues with his trucks, but he only keeps them for 80k miles.

Thank you. Someone finally got what I was saying instead of telling me I'm an idiot. Perhaps I could have phrased the thread title better (forgive me on nights this week at work).

That's just it, I'm not buying something to trade it soon as I pay it off. With the fiasco of my 2006 Colorado engine, plus 2 dealers and GM lying to me all the while, I don't see this working.

Which is a very good thing when talking about GM drivetrains. Some of the most reliable out there.

Yes the past Colorado didn't have the best reputation but our 07 hasn't had a lick of trouble. GM trucks in general (old full sizers and mid sizers) while lacking in interior refinement and lack of rattles had one of the most bullet proof drivetrains, so much so they are used in a good portion of V8 boats and a go to choice for racing. Their trucks have had a reputation longevity.

Is this by experience? That is the one vehicle from GM (and maybe a FWD car with the 3.8) that wouldn't have a problem running past 150. Our 4.3 in our astro van wasn't even smoking at 280k miles, that included towing a boat above its weight limit all around the midwest. Our old Sierra had 150k when we sold it to a contractor in west Texas.

Most any vehicle today will go to 150k mechanically, it is just electronics and other nuances that determine the longevity; it isn't just a Toyota thing anymore.

Some good older silverados. My buddies 03 had nightmare fuel injector problems after 120k. My roomies diesel with 80k has all kinds of things breaking (mirrors, etc.). The 2014 Sierra I had had the new cylinder deactivation 5.3L and it didn't seem like it would stand the test of time, some interesting things, and interior scratched to hell so easily.

I'll bet the majority of you folks bad mouthing gm don't even have any first hand experience with them, let alone long term experience, your just all hopped up on the Toyota fanboy coolaid. Toyotas aren't built any better than any of the rest and have they're common issues just like any other manufacturer, don't believe me just do a little lookin around on this forum, if Toyotas were as awesome as some of you let on these forums wouldn't exist cuz nothing would ever need to be fixed. I'm a gm guy and have been around many gm vehicles that have lasted multiple hundred thousand miles with only typical wear parts needing replaced and others that have needed more major repairs. They're all just machines and all machines will have a mechanical failure at some point, but of all the vehicles I've owned, my Tacoma has required more work and money just to keep it on the road than any of the rest of them and I've owned it for less time than any of them.
