Uhh, what? My truck was a 99 3rz auto and I converted it to manual. Same ecu plugs. I depinned all the auto stuff from the ECU just to be safe.

It's my understanding that 98+ Tacoma/4runners use the same ecu plugs. Makes since from a manufacturing stand point. No need for two parts doing the same job.

All 4.7s are drive by wire. The 00-02 have a cable that rotates a TPS sensor that talks to the ECU. The ECU then operates a throttle blade motor.

I have never driven a 1st gen Tundra, or anything with a 4.7 in a stock application. With that said, it felt like it was running at 100%.

Something to consider when running an ECU wired in reverse, if your cruise is built into the engine ecu, like the 4.7, you lose cruise. Cruise only works when the transmission is in "D". Also, none of my EVAP monitors would run. This was not a problem for me, because 01 and older vehicles are allowed two incomplete monitors, and that's what I had.

However, check out Car-part dot com. There are a few engine computers on there for your truck. The cheapest listed price is 125$. There are a bunch listed as "call". You might be able to find one. That is the best option.

From what I've read, the plugs are different. The auto ECU had more wires going in. It monitors more items then the manual trans

Im telling you the plugs are the same. By plugs, I'm talking about the white plastic "housings" that the wires run into.

Yes, the auto has more wires because it has a transmission to run.

I'm telling you that my truck came from the factory with a 3rz auto 4wd just like yours. I swapped in a manual transmission before I went v8. I removed the auto wires from the ECU plugs just to be safe, but I doubt there is a need to do so.

I know it's a bit late to the reply but I'm getting the same codes when I wire the clutch depress and release switch. They are 1700 and 1780. Speed sensor and PNSS. I did some research and of course the two speed sensors give completely different inputs to the ECU so you can't just splice in the wires from the missing speed sensor. AC voltage vs DC voltage readings.

However, when i just jump the park and power wires in the pnss, the speed sensor cel goes away. I suppose the ECU wouldn't expect a speed input when the truck is technically in park so it sees no problem lol

The resistors for the shift solenoids and temp sensor work great and those CELs are gone.

Interesting side note, when the clutch switches are wired correctly so that ECU thinks it's in D while driving, I get (best described as) flat spots in the torque curve while accelerating. I assume it's the ECU telling the engine to cut power in order to shift. ugh, this whole thing is so annoying!

I remember someone fooled it by fooling it into reverse all the time.

I would get flat spots also under WOT. I’m not sure what you can do about that

These are the reasons why I won't be swapping to a manual in my truck. It's too much of a headache and I need the CEL to off to pass emissions where I live.

The tried and true solution is to just swap ECUs lol Problem solved.

But where's the fun in that?!

I have a auto/manual swap I’m acquireing parts for and I just got a manual ECU from the same year model as my truck. Does anyone have a wiring diagram that will show me what pins are what on my harness? Or is there a write up on re pinning?
