For all you Scangauge fans.. have a laugh..

... or maybe not. Just spotted this via CNET. It's basically a repackaged Scangauge that appears to have been OEM'd to another company and does not appear to be sold by Linear-Logic. It's listed as $10 cheaper than a Scangauge II as well. It appears to have some of the "add-a-gauge" features preprogrammed to make it slightly more consumer friendly. Geeze.. everyone is getting in the game to make people drive the way they should to save gas. My question.. why do we need idiot lights, bells, whistles etc... to tell us we're putting our foot into it too hard and are decreasing gas mileage. Has your Scangauge saved you any $$$$.

PS Watch the CBS video promo. Talk about a lead foot.. she claims to have gone from filling up 4 times a week to just once? hmmm.

I believe they are well worth the money, considering all it can do.

 

I love mine. It actually showed me that 65 and 70mph were not as fuel friendly as I thought. I always assumed that interstate speeds would deliver optimal fuel economy. But I actually do way better at 45mph and driving in town. Mind you my town is very country, only 3 red lights. Town is 7 miles long and if you are not careful you will drive through without even noticing. I was also under the impression that slowly accelerating to speed was better than just getting to the posted limit. Don't dog it but get to the desired speed promptly. Just my $.02

 

Yes i thought the same thing about accelerating, so on my drive to work I experimented: slow acceleration got me around 21.5, mid-level got me around 22.5, balls out 21. My daily commute consists of lots of hills 40-55mph speed limits, 8 stops, 7 corners that I have to slow down to around 25 mph, and 20 miles.

 

what do u think are the most useful features on it

 

Actually, probably so; not much , but it has made me more aware of how shift points and not moving thru the gears affects your milage.

Just display TPS MPG and AMG and watch; dont run into the guy in front though.

 

I use the MPG, horsepower(still unsure of the accuracy), voltage, Intake temp most of the time. But the trip feature the tells you the cost of your trip(Useful for helping people move or tow so you can figure how they owe you), and also the trip feature that tells you approx. how many miles til your tank is empty are really useful to me.

 

I just got mine in yesterday and used it for the first time today. I like the MPG and MPH the most. Mine was from Amazon for $160.

To mount it, I took the Velcro pads and placed them on each side and it fits perfectly in the Speedo gauge. (It is there temporarily.)

I forgot to mention it in the origional post but I've had a SGII for over a year now and I love mine. The Fuel Till Empty option works for me and within .2 gallons. Great when pulling my trailer at 10mpg.

 

Have had mine for a week and really like it.

Thats funny, I had a dream right now that I installed a scanguage in my truck!

 

I wouldn't mind getting one myself, but not for MPG savings just for all the other codes and stuff it looks at. I could care less about millage, I bought a truck not a civic.

It's gotta be the same product by Linear Logic. It's just marketed differently with a different name. Scangauge also has Xgauge features.

I dunno how much cheaper it is... Shop around. Amazon has the Scangauge for $159. I'm sure you can find it elsewhere for less.

I've had mine for a couple years now. I really like it. I have it mounted right ontop the steering column right there in front of my face while I'm driving. I'm always looking at it. I love my xgauge DTE (distance to empty).

I don't think it's done anything to save me gas - I didn't really buy it for that anyway. I love the fact that its a diagnostic code reader and I can move it to any of my other vehicles to read trouble codes. That itself is worth the $160.

 

^Now see, to me, that's a valid reason to own one, the fact that it can read codes. To save money on gas? No. It sounds to me like a lot of folks need a crutch in order to improve their driving habits. For me, I don't need that. Years of driving tell me that if I accelerate rapidly, I'll get lower gas mileage (duh).
