I realize the Sport does not have the offroading capabilities of the Off Road. For those of you that live in snow prone areas such as myself, is the Sport satisfactory for your needs? Does its lack of a locker cripple the truck to any extent?
I'm looking at a DCLB Sport as I need the addtl bed space. I don't "off road" but drive in snow and use 4 whl drive when in my fields working/hunting etc. Thanks!

The long bed won't hinder you in the snow.

If anything you should have increased traction in any condition with the longed due to the increase in wheel base length.

The only limitation that I have seen to not having a locker is going up a black run hill were i needed both tires driving, other than that I driven a ton of mud and sand and have no problem, don't see how snow would be much different

Thanks. My concern wasn't the length of the truck but its mechanical capabilities or possible lack thereof compared to the OFFROAD.

You will do better in snow with the Sports Limited Slip Diff.

Not sure how much snow you get were you leave but we get a couple foot or plus storms a year and I have had no problem with my sport with no locker, as long as you have decent tires you will be fine

The only thing about the LB is it's longer and the ass end wants to step out more than the shorter chassis does, in sand it's fun.

You'll be fine. I've got a short bed but also 2 open differentials and I do very well in the snow. Get good tires and put some weight in the bed and it'll do well.

A locker would be a nice addition , but it isn't all that helpful on snowy roads

I have been very happy with my DCLB 4x4

Put some Goodyear Duratracs on that beast 265/70/17. It will pwn the snow.

Just trade your tires in at discounttire, they will give you 250-300$ depending on the deal.

I moded 1999 Taco so much it had turned to Land Cruiser
05-08 sports with factory mechanical LSD (as long it works) can handle snow same as elocker (offroad trucks)
Newer trucks with Auto LSD are not as good. ( I have both) Still works but its not the same.
Lenght of the truck is not much of the difference unless rear end starts swinging. longer truck is easier to control IMHO.

No more mud flaps, Temp gauge inside intake box, BHLM, extra D-rings in front of bed, No more plastic storage box behind rear seats. More to come.
Mine has done great off road and just fine in snow and ice, only tires I've had are the BFG A/Ts. Want to do good years next, I hope they're just as effective. The good snow driving is typically the person driving and careful throttle and braking. Just know it won't handle anything like on dry or wet asphalt.

On the flip side, the new trucks with Auto-LSD can do the yellow wire mod for TRAC in 4L.

Also if you do a locker in the new trucks, you are not losing your mechanical LSD during normal driving conditions, since its Auto-LSD an ARB will work great with that type of system.

Go for the duratracs they rock. Do what ever you can to get out of the stock tires for the cost difference to up grade or something. Or just switch asap and sell the stockers on craigslist. You should be able to get close to retail for them.

Just this last week end I was in an area that got 27 inches of snow.

I had my snow blowers on a trailer. I would park in front of peoples houses in the snow banks going up hill. With two duratracs in 2 1/2 feet of plowed snow/slush and the other two on asphalt. And the trailer and heading up hill and in 4H I had no problem.

A lot of people talk shit on the traction control But I think it worked wonderful in that situation. I even played around with it in 2H and the traction off. I would drive in a snow bank with one tire in snow and the other on the asphalt until i was stuck. Then turn the trac back on give a little gas and it would walk right out. Too many people expect to trac to work like a locker and don't give it a chance.

I got $550 on craigslist for stockers that had 49 miles on them.
