i never thought i'd be looking for prayers on here, but my friend will need all the help he can receive.

one of my best friends and his girlfriend had a baby this week. he was born tuesday, his girlfriend and baby were in good health. i received a phone call from our mutual friend today that sometime last night, the baby stopped responding to everything, stopped breathing... they took him to a hospital with a neurologist, and he determined the baby was brain dead. the baby is on life support now, none of his organs are doing what they are supposed to do. the doctor said there is a handful of cases, and when i say handful i mean like 5, that when this has happened that they pull the child off of life support. he said sometimes the shock will put life back into the baby's body and the organs will start to operate, but the doctor said its a one in a few million chances. basically, the doctor said short of a miracle, the baby will not make it through this. i'm in shock, i cant even explain... i cant fathom how the baby can go from healthy to this in such a short period of time.

i'm praying for the baby, i'm praying for a miracle, and i'm praying that one of my very best friends and his girlfriend make it through this. i cant even begin to imagine what they are feeling, i would never want a choice like that on my shoulders, i would never want anyone with a choice like that. thats a lot to bear.

our mutual friend told me that they plan to leave the baby on life support at least today and thru the night and see if anything improves, then they will talk to the doctor again and decided what is best to do next.

thanks everyone. i just got back from the hospital. the baby's heart is beating on his own, but he still is unresponsive and is on the breathing machine. he has a lot of swelling on his brain, so they have him in a cooling blanket to help have the swelling go down so that they can do a mri to see how much damage has been done. my friend(the father) found him not breathing, not responding, but still warm to the touch. thats when he hit the emergency button for the nurses to come. the main thing they are worried about is how long he was without oxygen, could be 5 min, could be 7 or 8 min. they had nurses making rounds every 10 min or so, but my buddy realized the baby wasnt making any noises and thats when he found him like he was. my buddy said the doctors are giving very dismal outlooks, however some are saying wait the 72 hours on the cooling blanket for the swelling to go down, then they can fully see what has happend.

they still are not entirely sure what caused this, they ran blood tests but will not get results back until tomorrow. they are thinking it may have been a bacterial infection but wont know for sure unitl tomorrow.
