I was driving around 20mph and hit some holes on a dirt road, nothing major. I think it was just time to break after 5 years of offroad abuse lol. I have ADD axles, do you sell bolt-on ones or do I have to get my own bearings and stuff? I'm definitely interested in the gusseted ones

Well the top of the spindle where it meets the UCA broke. It wasn't because it was ADD, it happens to both ADD and manual hubs.

Oh for sure! Meant that more in the way of "I wish my truck had manual hubs." Sorry you broke a spindle though. That sucks. Weld on gussets in your future?

I will PM you some options. It varies based upon refurbished parts vs new, gussets or no, CVs needed and most folks don’t need upper ball joints or want the whole bag and baggage with a manual diff tube to boot.

On these refurbished spindles/knuckles, it looks like a lot of them have had pretty bad rust prior, at what point do you reject a spindle/knuckle assembly that is is too far gone to be refurbished? BTW, I love the service you are providing for the 1st gen community.

The majority of everything is new OEM. I attempt to refurbish hubs, knuckles and manual locks. It doesn’t always work out and sometimes it can turn into more work than it is worth. However, the vast majority demonstrate flaking of powedercoat, remnants of backing plates, thin shell seals crumbling and hardware failing first. I have become better than I wanted to be at drilling and retapping holes.

As for knuckles, any compromise of the c clip seat that prevents bearing coming out is discarded. Any compromise of the upper ball joint ring is a no go, especially without a gusset welded. Finally, I don’t compromise on the lower ball joint four mounting points. Any appearance or damage to the two toes sticking out or anything that could contribute to an LBJ failure. Otherwise the neck and stem region are superficial flakes along with the body surrounding the bearing. Hope this helps clarify.
