He's not calling smokers forgetful or negligent. He's saying someone who smokes in a vehicle does not see the vehicle the same way as someone who refuses to smoke in it, whether or not they actually are a smoker. If you smoke in a vehicle, you're going to treat the vehicle as well or worse than someone who refuses, but not better. That goes for interior, maintenance, etc. What you do and don't do in the truck is reflective of the amount of respect you have for the vehicle.

YUP! On the money. If you truly cherish your vehicle, yet have a habit of smoking, you'd find a way of not smoking in your car. It destroys the interior & years of smoking will literally change the color of the interior to a yellow hue. Yuck. My buddy lit up a cigarette in my car and I kicked him out.

Basically, if you care so little, as to smoke in a vehicle, then you'd be more apt to not necessarily care about basic maintenance. IMO

    - Fitch Fuel Catalyst…basically a catalytic converter…for the gas line. It purifies gas going into the engine. Does it help save MPG as advertised? Absolutely not. People swear by it, that if you use it on your engine, your exhaust & engine internals will have dramatically less soot & it's more environmentally friendly. I passed smog with it…so…? http://www.autoanything.com/shop/fitch-fuel-catalyst

    - I've been changing my oil for the past two years at 3,000 miles with full synthetic, but the automatic oil change sensor on the Tacoma says 5,000 miles. The prior owner used full synthetic too, but changed it every 5,000 miles. I wasn't thrilled about that, but he was completely honest about everything else, so I have no reason to doubt he told me the truth. When I first started the truck in his driveway I was so impressed, because it was F'ing smooth…like new. Still is, but I slammed that muffler on it lol. We are also still friends on FB.

    - A PCV valve is a very commonly missed $40 part. It sits at the top of the engine and is a little valve that opens & closes to allow the heat of your oil to escape and return back to your intake to relieve & recycle the gas fumes & allow the heated oil to dissipate … instead of sticking to the top of your valve covers…think of your kitchen, above your stovetop. The ceiling will somehow be greasy if cooking happens a lot. The heat carries the oil to the top and sticks to the top of your kitchen / engine. This in turn, increases internal engine pressure & can pop seals, causing oil leaks. Mine seeps a little oil though…:(… Very little, but enough to screw crap up at the bottom if not cleaned in about a year.

Short answer is no. Long answer is yes. I do not recommend doing this, because it can dry your gaskets out, but if you pour some SeaFoam literally into the oil run it around town, then change the oil. You don't want to leave SeaFoam in your oil. It's a cleaning agent. Other than that, pulling your valve covers off and scraping the gunk off the top is the alternative.

I wouldn't worry about it honestly.

Is your truck still avail? I have what you seek. 2006 DCLB SWB 2WD with camper shell and tow package, 106k (and some change) miles. :) But he's a lived-in truck. I respect my truck, but use it as a truck. I have missed an oil change here and there, and needs new tires. I took it off roading once, but it got stuck like 5 times bec its a 2WD lol. Its OK I went with 4x4 freinds and got pulled out. There are a couple areas where Carmax touched-up the paint and has 106k(and some change miles). I'm new to DIY as far as the truck goes, I got a P4030 code and tried to change my O2 sensor myself (bank 2 just passed the cat) and it was pretty easy. I reset the code, and it came back on in 30 miles. I took it back to Carmax (I have an extended warranty on mechanical parts), and they diagnosed a bank 2 cat that needs replacing. My truck could use someone that treats it like a treasure, I treat it like a truck. The interior is OK, but needs to be cleaned. I am the 2nd owner and I have no way of knowing if the first owner smoked bec I bought it from Carmax. The shell, bed and tail gate are in good shape, the electrical all works great - new battery with warranty via AAA to come replace if it has a problem. You would have to put some TLC and maybe flush, but the truck is awsome, and would turn out amazing if you took it and gae it some love. I have to either sell my shell to pay for my cat to get fixed or sell my truck, bec I can't pass smog right now until its fixed. Send me a message if interested or have more questions. Sorry its not in perfect condition but its awsome!

I found exactly your truck, but 1 owner, 2005 & traded my 2006. It took me 9 1/2 yrs. I'm very interested in your camper shell. 661-505-5663. Texting works. Let me know if you ever intend on selling the shell. Also, thank you for the detailed info on it.
