Yesterday was a long day. We drove around a 120 miles looking at some houses. I have to say that we were a bit disappointed by the fact that it look like some people have listed their homes with junk just laying around the yard. I don’t mean their belongings, but old toilet, decayed and fallen down shied, broken down equipment that looks like it has been sitting in the same spot for years. One place had air fresheners in many of the rooms like they were hiding something. In that same place I found in the basement underneath the front porch area where the block is pretty damp in 3 places. Plus it had a musky smell. The owner said they had no water issues. The yard was very soft and wet in several places around the house.
It seemed like some people were, let’s put our house up for sale and don’t do anything to it. If it sells for this ridiculous price. Then, great.
Before I put my place on the market, I’m going to clean up what back and side yard I have, fix the front yard from where the yard was washed away when we had some flooding, patch the walls that need it. Just make it look nice, not perfect but good.

Sorry for the rant.

We can offer less. I really don’t want to have to clean up someone else’s crap. My sister and just spent several weeks and couple trips to clean up the property we inherited in Idaho this passed summer. I spent around $11000 out of my pocket renting equipment and hauling junk and trash to the dump. Just not ready to have to clean up after others again.

It the same here. People leave their junk behind for the new home owner to get rid of.

Then the way the house market is. Owners would put their junk house up foe sale at a high price, knowing someone would buy it.

It sucks how some many people out there who thinks their s___ don’t stink.

 

Any lemon laws on houses where you live? Here, I think there's a warranty period, but not sure. It protect people from getting taken advantage of.

 

Same boat. Any house I can actually afford usually has random shit lying around, half assed repairs, or no repairs....

 

I’ll have to check on the house lemon law. I know many people get home warranties on the house they buy. But, you have to be careful on what warranty company you go with. I see with pools a lot. The warranty says it covers the pool equipment and above ground plumbing. When the owner files a claim, there are clauses if it is not the circulation pump, it’s not covered. Meaning that there polaris cleaner pump is not covered, even though it is part of the pool equipment.
It really boils down to: buyer beware and do your own homework. Be at the home inspection, watch, look yourself and ask questions no matter how stupid they sound. Cover yourself the best you can.
I just hate the bs that people try.

Does the previous home owner have to warranty anything for a certain period of time?

 

Favorite recently was a "dry" basement that had plywood covering two of the bare concrete walls. I intentionally left the closest light to them off, asked if we could pull the plywood to look at the walls, and the guy kept saying no we don't have time for that.

Turned on the light and asked if this "dry" basement normally had puddles in it. He said someone spilled some water.

No. The car won't let us turn only the fogs on. I could try it on my truck though as I can turn it on with my parking lights on

I believe they just offer to paid for a one year home warranty for the buyer. That tells me that there are probably issues that were poorly repaired ( patched).
