DISCLAIMER : This is not a write-up. Plenty of those here on TW and YouTube. Just me shootin' the breeze and posting a few pix.

Finished up the front brakes. No issues. Very simple and straight forward.

Akebono ACT 976. I bought these from Advanced Auto. They bought out Carquest a couple of years ago...hence the name on the box. I went with these because so many people here on TW recommend them and they are apparently the manufacturer of the OEM pads. I paid $70. You can get them on Amazon for a few bucks less if you want.

    20200201_091605.jpg 20200201_091627.jpg

The factory pads have 2 shims layered on top of each other. The Akebonos have 1 shim built onto the pad. So I just used the outer OEM shim on them. I put some brake lube on the shim where the pistons make contact with them. Been using the Permatex for many years without issue.

    20200201_110219.jpg

I cleaned everything up with some brake cleaner before installing it all back together . The new pads came with a small tube of lube. I used that on the slide pins.

I appreciate your maintenance write-ups. You’ve got a good Everyman with minor ocd thing going that fits well with Tacoma ownership. Carry on.

I do like to take care of things when it comes to repairs or maintenance on my vehicles. 1st of all...I'm not a naturally trusting person. 2nd of all...I want it to be done right. So if I do it myself...I've satisfied both of those things.

And honestly....I enjoy hanging out in the garage. It's my safe haven from all the free flowing estrogen in the house. If I don’t take a break from it once in awhile....I start to sprout tits and a vagina. o_O

I forgot to mention that if you've ever flushed or topped off your brake fluid you may need to adjust the level. With the new pads it will probably be high. I've flushed my system a couple of times, so mine was high.

As a bonus the pad shift (very common in Tacos) is gone....for now. That may change as the pads wear.
