As much as I don’t want to, I think I might have to let Rosie go. It is not a good family car and although I have been able to get the best mileage I can out of her, but I’m spending almost $300 on gas a month. My old car, $150 on a real bad month. Insurance is high, registration is high... The biggest issues are gas and interior space.

I love everything else about the truck, but these issues are really starting to become an issue. I really don’t need the utility of a truck as I live in an apartment. I don’t need the 4wd as I have used it exactly once when needed in the last 30k I have owned it. I regularly have 5 people in the truck, 4 are adults and the fifth is in a car seat.

What opinions do you all have?

You're present truck is paid for, and a new vehicle would be maybe a bit less on gas. But the insurance and registration would be the same, or close to it. But you'd also have a vehicle payment for 4 or 5 years. Even if you traded Rosie in and financed the rest - or paid cash. l think you'd still be spending more every month than what you do now.
New vehicles are never a bargain. Even if they get a little better mileage.

    Just my thoughts!!!!

You need to do whatever you think is best for you. That said....Rick brings up some good points. The difference in price between your truck and a new vehicle buys a lot of gas

Always liked that body style. His is a red '93 Twin Turbo. He bought it from the original owner 25 years ago. The engine had just gotten tired as old rotary engines do over time. He ordered a new 13b long block from Japan. He decided to go with a single turbo.....which means upgrading many systems.

We finished up the new fuel pump and relay system as well as relocating the battery to storage area behind the passenger seat yesterday. We had to do that because the new intercooler occupies much of the stock battery location. Next up is some more electrical work in the engine compartment and addressing the cooling system and getting some of the Haltech engine management system in place.

The end result will be about 400 hp and 350 lbs ft of torque .

The only pictures I have are when we pulled the engine. I'll get some more as the thing comes together.

New guy here, but not new to this Tacoma. Bought new in 08 and other than the shell and a set of floor mats it's pretty much the same as when it rolled off the factory floor.

Lucille (so named by the previous owner, little ol' lady who thought the red head was a good mascot) got to work like a truck. Got a ridiculous deal on a NIB tool chest this weekend. Spent the rest of the day organizing the workspace. Don't know how you short bed guys survive.
