The plastic lense of your map light acts as a diffuser so it will not create a "beam" of light. It will just create a brighter light with the same spread as the incandescent.

I don't, but for how little they cost you could buy both and use whichever one you like better, and keep the other as a backup.

We got my better half the rav4 premium. 29-32 mpg around town and highway. It's comfortable as heck, smooth quiet ride, and has every feature you could ask for. She really loves it and despite me not being an suv or crossover guy, I like it quite a bit.
