Got a "stock rig" of a different sort as a loaner; 2022 Camry!

 

Dunno, I kinda like the styling of the previous generation better.

Not that I'd be biased or anything

 

I miss my mom's 1990 Camry LE V6; My parents bought it new and had it for eight years. Funny how LE was the top trim back then and now it's a base model; My mom's car had 4-wheel disc brakes and every option except leather seats and a CD player!

 

This would be our 3rd Camry.

First was a 2002 Camry Solara that I learned to drive on...



Then a 2006 4 door...



Honorable mention was a 2000 Avalon. Thing was way faster than it should have been with that 3.0 V6!

 

Avalons are unkillable!

 

I also love the Solara in red! Was it a 5-speed?

 

Nope, was the 4 speed automatic. Had the 2.4 2AZ-FE though.

I just saw what you did there.

 

The 1MZ engine had VVT-i by then. Gave it a decent bump in power

 

When did Toyota first introduce VVT-i?

 

I know for most of the N. American applications it was around '99/'00

And it's looking more and more like that damn PCV valve was the reason my truck was "using" oil!

 

It's probably getting by the rings too. Just make a habit of checking it weekly....after it's been sitting for awhile on level ground

Been over a thousand miles since last oil change and the oil level is normal; Would replacing the rings, if required, involve totally tearing down the engine or would it more like replacing the valve cover gasket? The PCV valve was only $8.50 and I figured it couldn't hurt or replace it, but if that ended up not being the problem, I was gonna have my mechanic replace the valve cover gasket since that's nowhere near as involved as the head gasket and some other parts.
