Question, my boss is buying us some new trucks. The other 2 supervisors are getting Rams, but since I’m the smallest and youngest he’s interested in getting me a Ford Ranger. Should I ask for a 2nd Gen Tacoma instead? Much more comfortable driving something I’m already used to. I’d like a 2.5 Gen DCLB.

Tricky....getting a new truck is a nice perk. But asking for something different may come across wrong. I guess it depends on your judgement and how you think your boss will receive the request.

That’s exactly what I’m thinking. Me and him get along well, but I think it’s a douche move to request something totally different. Might just bite the bullet and take the Ranger.

    Here’s the tricky part:

He’s always out to save a buck when he can, even in this market, a used 2.5 Gen is cheaper than a brand new Ranger XL. That’s the only leverage I have going for me in this situation.

He's going to probably get a fleet plan through a dealership since it's for a company use. You won't find a 2/2.5 gen with that deal right now. Not to mention a brand new vehicle will have less expected maintenance costs, very attractive to a business. From a business standpoint, it probably makes more sense for him to get the ranger.

But, a new Ranger comes with a warranty, so there are reduced maintenance costs. With parts shortages, that may be a factor.

This is a kind of "don't shit where you eat" situation. I'd not say anything and take the Ranger with a smile, UNLESS he comes to you and ask.

My last job gave me a little Transit Connect to drive. Complete shit-box, but I was happy just to not put miles on my vehicles. They also even put satellite radio in it and paid for the subscription.

Y’all are right there. I’ll see if he’s interested in going with a 3rd Gen SR instead. Got a friend at a dealership that can hook it up for a few bucks under sticker.

Ford has really good commercial discounts which is probably why they're looking that way. We're starting to mix in rangers into our fleet of F150s. I've had some seat time in my FIL's ranger as well. My biggest gripe is auto start/stop and the smaller car like cab

    Mark makes a good point.
Myself I would ask yourself if your work would be hindered with the different vehicle.
    IE carrying equipment etc.
I would ask, if that could be the case, the reason for the decision.
Or do you feel like your less worthy of the other vehicle.

Honestly not too bad. Better weld than rivets.
