So, I was doing some thinkin' and ponderin' (yea I know, that's dangerous) but looking back the current water softener system is just way too damn old to try and spend the time and effort cleaning up. The brine tank is sludged up and brown, and the inlet tube for some reason is full of water. There's no telling what the resin tank looks like inside. Simply, the system has seen its day. Seen here...

Priced a smaller unit for what my use would be and it's only about $375 from the big orange store. It's a self contained system so that'll save space too. I think that will be less hassle than trying to refurbish the old system. So, I haven't even gotten the appraisal back yet and am already spending money in my head.

Just think how enjoyable it will be working on something with clean (relatively speaking) water!

I just want to finally be able to shower with nice softened water that'll actually enable me to get a good lather! Been on city water for the past 6 years and it's very hard and stains the Hell out of the plumbing fixtures.

This house also has a cistern that runs the outside spigot and I'm going to also plumb it into the toilet. Need to make a bypass loop for dry months. It'll be a pretty neat setup once I get it all plumbed up!

We're pretty lucky here with soft city water. Probably just as good as some bottled water

My in-laws just upgraded their system for their well. I can ask for the details, I know the dog wouldn't drink the water before and now she does.

You're lucky; the city water at the place I'm at now is super hard and heavily chlorinated. I have a filter that takes care of the chlorine odor, but I'm not installing a softener in a place that isn't mine. Contemplated buying this place a while back, but the commute to work is too long.

Life... it's still sitting waiting for the flywheel to come off. Was busy writing thank you notes for gifts from our housewarming on Saturday. I'll get to it some day this week. Maybe.
