Maine roads hitting hard lately. Buddy hit a pothole and snapped his shock mount off. And collapsed the shock. 0089DE6B-633B-4787-9D0B-339DEA1C8CA8.jpg

The advice I had (from How To Keep Your Volkswagen Squareback Alive, A Manual For the Complete Idiot maybe?) was that if you're replacing a quart every 1,000 miles, by the time you get to that oil change interval you've done it. 'Course the '67 and '69 Squarebacks just had a screen, and I'd change every 3k miles with Valvoline 10w40. We still had a case (24 quarts) on the shelf in the machine shed since Dad and I would watch for SuperAmerica's sale and stock up at $0.50/qt. Expensive in the late 1970s... I did find a copy of that publisher's guide for Toyota Pickups 22R and 22RE, 1980-something to 1997 on eBay. Seller's asking $200 so I added to Watch list and received an offer of $11.00 off, which would cover the $10.95 shipping. I should kept the copy I had, and sell it to pay for Taco accessories.

Dad told me that he and Mom saw one in the rain cross ahead of the car at Togwotee Pass (Wyoming) on the way to their honeymoon in Yellowstone. Smoke Elser referred to a ranger who worked in the west side of Yellowstone NP, who had a number of encounters. Look in the searchable database of the BigFoot Research Organization for encounters near you (sorry, could not resist that "a dealer near you") at bfro dot net (not "com"). Mom would never talk about it, and would not read the book by the researcher at Idaho State University.

That must be a freeze plug heater, correct? I had one on the '84 Toyota pickup. It replaces the freeze plug on the side of the engine block. Make sure it's the same size as the freeze plug that's being removed.
Cooled down to 25 here, with a little bit of blizzard today, and a fluffed up robin in the tree near a feeder.

We've all been there. I did the same on an old Mazda B2000. But it was worth it because I had fun tinkering with it.

There's actually a provisional hole/cavity in the block without a freeze plug for it.
