If you need more, let me know. I've put off cleaning for a couple (three) years, the Duluth Trading Co. back seat cover that was inhabited by Mom and Dad's border collie ... Before I retired from my full-time job, I had to fly to ANC for monthly eye exams (mostly pressure checks) and noticed when it was 13 degrees while waiting for the bus in Spenard, it was a lot colder walking downhill to the eye clinic, plus the breeze down Ship Creek...

After buying the 25 year old Scout II from Dad's affliction to rescue IH light trucks (He ordered a new '70 Travelall, traded for a '70 heavy 1/2 ton with 4wd useful in starting ranch life after the AF, which was replaced by a '75 American LaFrance airport flatbed 1-ton 4wd IH 392, with a 5-speed trans ordered by Harris Implement of Mountain Home, Idaho so Mom & Dad drove US93 from Montana to visit the owners, AF friends in the 1950s, and pick it up), I drove it 2600 miles to Cordova with a year-old Brittany. We made a three-day stop to hunt out of Copper Center with the owners of the pup's parents. 1996 with a 1971 Scout II, 304 V8 and Borg-Warner T39 automatic stick next to the transfer case shifter, new Michelin LTX-AT 235/75-15s. Later research: IH did not apply any rustproofing to the interior sides of body panels until 1979, the last two years for the Scout II.
I met quite a number of people in AK along the way, who loved seeing the truck as they'd loved theirs until it was RIP in Alaska. Rusted In Peace. I have the recently reissued Ertl model kit to build... rustproof plastic...

Vintage Truck magazine September/October 2022 had Wendell Kelch's 1974 Scout II diesel on the cover and an excellent article on IH engineering research into diesel engines. The Nissan-built SD-33 (Chrysler Marine CN6-33) was the first tested, the Peugeot XDP 6.90 (popular in other parts of the world) quickly fell out of favor, and the third engine tested was the Perkins 6.247 featured in this restoration article. The Perkins was the zippier of the three tested, but Perkins hadn't worked it into production while Chrysler Marine was ending its joint venture with Nissan and had plenty of engines in inventory available to IHC, as Chrysler and IHC had a close credit relationship as IHC purchased Torqueflite transmissions for its Light Line trucks and Scouts. so IHC planed to introduce its diesel Scout for the 1976 model year with the sole caveat that Nissan work with IHC in developing a turbocharged version of the SD-33. The enhanced SD-33T turbo-diesel was only produced in 1980, the Scout II's final year of production, the diesel that IHC really wanted.
+ If you hear of a 1/25 scale model of the Perkins 6.247 diesel (247 cubic inches), I'd like to modify the AMT/Ertl kit of the 1971 with that diesel under the hood.
