2 day job replacing cedar clapboards on this 1912 Cape. They were right on the roof and all dry rot on the ends. Got this much done on the dormer today. 12/12 pitch roof, so assistance is required. Had a ladder braced upon the roof. The dormer wasn't plumb, so simple 45 & 90 degree cuts didn't work. After some trial and error, 47.5/90 was the formula for the courses to run level and tight up against the dormer trim. Had to cut, fit and instal each piece myself. 3 ladders trips per piece. Left 3/4" space along the roof. The step flashing was in good shape. My neighbor wasn't able to comprehend the required cuts...ugh. Wrapped this up tomorrow and do some lower easier pieces. Then paint everything that was replaced. 1st coat was applied on the ground before installing.

    Excellent job Mark.

That Tyvek looks to have gotten a bit damp a time of two.

Indeed. There was evidence of multiple repairs/replacements with all sorts of nail types. I hit all the holes/tears with clear Tyvek Tape. And ran a strip of Zip Tape along the top edge as there was a gap.

That Zip tape is good stuff. That house looks to predate Tyvek. So definitely someone has been in there before

The original tar paper was behind the Tyvek, so I'm sure it's not so breathable. There's been a lot of half assed repairs to the clapboards all over the house Many very short pieces cut out and scabbed in. I think I'll be doing the other side of the dormer in the spring.

I checked. Nothing that I can see. But 75 miles west of me they apparently were a vivid magenta color like Mark posted up

The radio station at Twin Falls, Idaho received a number of calls from people seeing this in the middle of the night during this season in 1980. We were listening to the radio at the state game farm in Jerome, and knew it was the Aurora Borealis. After pulling out the sockeye weir at Crescent Lake (Port Snettisham, south of Juneau), we laid out on the grass next to the fire and watched an incredible display. Nothing better than being out in the boonies at 60 degrees North! (And having a great boss who'd fly with the Beaver seaplane pilot on weekly camp resupply stops and checks on his crews.)

Picked up a little. Another long exposure, but could see a bit better at this point.
