Been helping a former co-worker/friend with her deck. I gave her a free "friend" work day a while back and replaced the decking. The framing is just under 12' and she bought 12' deck boards...very little room for error as the framing is not square and there's hardly any overhang. I suggested she get 14' for plenty of overhang with the skirting boards. Had to hang the skirting differently on those ends. I digress. She's happy.

Went back today and did new stairs and installed some hogwire railings. My first attempt. None of the posts (all original) are plumb and are all slightly out of alignment and twisted. Made it look good nonetheless. That one section near the house will have corrugated metal panels for a little privacy from the street. Wrapping the final two sections up tomorrow along with a couple of other things.

Girl, you’re nothing like they have ever met before.
They have 2 strikes against them before they open their mouths.

It's sandwiched between the horizontal and vertical railing pieces (like a frame). Top and bottom are 2x4. Sides are 2x4 ripped in 1/2 with cut edge against post. No sharp edges. Those are attached to the posts. I installed the outer one first, then cut & attached the hog wire with with 1" fence staples. Then attached the inner frame to the outer frame to snug it all up. The gap/space will allow water to drain between the boards. The top cap between each post covers the gap in the top.

I didn't build them as frames/one unit, just attached each piece individually. All GRK #10 x 3 1/8" structural screws.

Going for a tire rotation on Mrs. SpruceMica's minivan today. I love the smell of a tire dealer. Then over to Tractor Supply for water conditioner salt. Throw in a coffee and that's a morning.

Made it back to Flyover country safe n sound. Bummed I didn't get to connect with Mike n Mark n Crystal. Next time, when I actually hang around for a while.

Was wonderful to be with my daughter and granddaughter. And to get into the White's, if only for a minute.

    upload_2024-11-19_14-34-40.png

Let a shop put their hands on Lucille while I was away. First time since I owned her, aside from the dealership/frame inspection a few years back. Let them do coolant and Brake fluid FLUSH and replace, as well as diffs. asked them to assess front end components also. Didn't bother. Recommended motor oil (filter had mileage written on it, only 2800 since swap) and air filter. told them to read the available data...

    Anyway. hope you're all well.
