I’m pissed.
I have a cold. I feel like shit.
Mums car went dead.
So, I carried my ass over to her house with scan tool, two volt meters, and hand tools.
Lights are bright, clock accurate , auto windows still in sync but, no workie workie.
Hook up my two meters and 10 volts standing.
Try to start it. Like 7 volts on both meters..
Try to charge it.
Charger says full.
Well it would say full IF YOU HAVE A BAD FUCKIN CELL.

Battery is 10 months old. WTF…
So, ask mum for the receipt.
Can find it..

The parts store is right next door. Yes next door.
Throw the battery on the counter.
I told the guy I needed a replacement for this POS battery.
He says ok I’ll take it out back and check it.
I said NOOOOO.
Battery charger says full.
10 volts standing confirmed with 2 meters
Can’t do a load test cause it dumps down to 7 volts.
Has no reserve.
You really want to waste your time and my patience??
Other guy says “He did your job already, look at his jacket”..
I had my old work jacket on with the insignia on it..
So, goes out back.
Can’t find another battery.
Ok, what else you got? Same thing but different !!!
Have another “slightly better” for $30 more.
I said “Great, I’ll take that for the replacement swap”.
“Ahh, we can’t do that.” He said.

Well, get me the battery from another store.
Yeup, 3 days..
Ahhh nope, that’s not gonna work.
Not waiting 3 days for a replacement battery that this one took a shit in 10 months.
She needs her car like now.
Other guy says just exchange it.
Thank You very much I said.

So, he goes out back and brings out THE EXACT BATTERY I’M BRINGING BACK.
Lol dude, the same battery I’m bringing back and you’re trying to charge me $30 bucks more???

Oh shit, I’m so sorry.
So I said “let me guess, this battery was in the gold pile and it was backwards sitting there.”
He goes dam, yes it was.. How did you know?

I said, “ 48 years in the business I’ve seen it all, and remembered it all”. And i laughed.
He was really embarrassed…,
I said don’t worry about it. I won’t say anything if you don’t..
I told him he could blame the guy who put it there..,
So, went back and put the new battery in and checked it over.

Indeed ... I was just day-dreamin' 'bout my local businesses who were competent with reasonable prices and good service. Sadly they're all gone ... retired, dead, or run outta business by "progress."
This gettin' old ain't for the meek.

I’ve been doing that to others a lot lately..

 

Kinda similar. I went through 7, yes count ‘em 7 Shell Invincible batteries in one Winter. Even the distributor couldn’t believe it. Made me get the truck checked out before he gave me my money back. Turns out the whole pallet was sittin’ there frozen on a loading dock in Edmonton for a week. Whole shipment went bad.

 

ooof ... somebody in logistics screwed that pooch.

 

Yeah, but the ripple effects was good for the economy I’m sure.
