For the first time in 12 days I'm starting to see little patches here and there. Been a tough couple of weeks weather-wise for this area.

I’ll bet. I don’t know why they keep reseeding boulevards here with the amount of Salt but your area rarely sees prolonged snow.

What made this time bad was not so much the snow itself (we do get snow here), but the ice that came afterwards and then the artic temps. While the ice and temps aren't unheard-of down this way, they aren't all that common.

You got that right. And today was the first day where temps were above freezing (34°F today) since January 5th. Some of our night temps have been in the single digits. That's cold for here. We have a warm up tomorrow and Saturday before another artic wave drops down. Not really any snow, but bitter temps Tuesday and Wednesday nights of around 0°F. :(

Some two years ago we had an ice storm c/w high winds even before all the leaves dropped. Took ‘em over 2 years & they’re still at it. Gotta say, some real nice lookin’ tree units & chippers out there now.

As a college sophomore (hunting and fishing and equipment maintenance were priorities in Montana), we'd often scrounge supplies as the Navy recruiters were packing up. Great cardboard posters back in the day, "NAVY It's not just a job. It's an adventure!" One day I asked, "If I sign up for three years, can I retire with twenty? I spent my first 17 years with the Air Force." Both recruiters were taken aback, then the three of us grinned as they replied, "Uh, No. But it's a great idea!" Dad explained that NCO retirement was better than that of commissioned officers because officers were subject to direct recall in retirement, so "What would they do with a 70 year old navigator?!" Thirty years after he'd retired from that career... We and a former KC-135 flight engineer I met here, agreed that it was a big mistake to remove navigators and flight engineers (crew chiefs) from the flight deck. With just two pilots sharing navigation duties, that explains those instances of landing on the wrong runway (correct alignment but wrong airport on the way home). Once a military brat, always...
