We stayed at an AB&B last summer that was a beautifully redone older home. The basement was converted to a game room. You could still see some ceramic knobs up in the floor joists

Can’t be all bad if it lasted this long. Better than cheap imported wire that just may contain enough copper to keep ‘er legal.

No wire present. I'm sure that was removed decades ago. Just the knobs were left. The owner of the AB&B had a binder where you could sign and leave comments, concerns, questions and suggestions. It also included some the history of the house. Before he renovated it, the last known heavy "update" occurred sometime in the early 1960s. So I'm guessing it's been gone at least that long, if not longer. I bet the knobs were left there out of laziness back in the day. But I get the feeling the current owner left them on purpose.

The coatings are brittle af and largely desintegrated off the conductors, especially in any pull-chain lighting or receps where theres a lot of movement plugging, unplugging, pulling.. Doesnt take much, touches the wrong thing and *poof*. I don’t know what copper youre referring to but we’ve never had an issue with the NM. Im sure it’ll be brittle and obsolete in 75 years and replaced with something as well. Just the way things go. :notsure:

And in the northwest... the old mining town housing and the 1905 church building where we renovated the sound system with an electrician adding a ground circuit before we replaced, repurposed, and added equipment for the Audio, Video, and Lighting (AVL) systems. Hoffman Pro Systems (and I was another pair of hands during the day) worked the month of January 2013, and informed us about the K&T wiring above the sanctuary ("still hot, be careful going over it." The old hand crank boat trailer winches with hemp rope up there were replaced with electric winches controlled from below supporting the chandeliers donated in 1961 with wire rope.)

    Morning
Looks like about 6” of the white stuff.
    Nice and fluffy…
My dream of standing in the window,in my robe, with a mug of coffee, watching people scramble to get out to go to work, unfortunately ain’t going to happen. One works from home, one just doesn’t go in, and the rest are retired. I will hear the blowers down the street but nothing to see. That’s ok, I’d be outside now scrambling to clear stuff before I went to work to stand around all day for free. Then come home late and have everyone have their driveway cleaned and I stop in front of my driveway with 2 feet of snow in it. But, that’s ok. Dreams change. Now, I’ll settle for people having there drives plowed and a hour later the city truck will go by and bury them back in. Then, they get out with a shovel, work on it for 5 min, then go back in. Meanwhile, im riding in my J.D. and just playing.
    No rush, no fuss.
    I’m so bad,,,, I LOVE IT……

If I play the wind and do things in the proper order, I should be GTG. At a minimun if I can get the vehicles done, bonus.

    Morning :pccoffee:

Interstates are fine here, but despite being a busy road, mine is in pretty poor shape. Gotta go out in a couple hours, so not looking forward to that. I cleared my driveway off around 3pm yesterday and got to do it again. Pretty fluffy snow, but it's a solid sheet of ice underneath. Not fun :goingcrazy:
