Same. Im hoping one of the laborers grabbed it thinking it was theirs and it turns back up magically this morning. Im buying some hydrodip stuff to do my tools because the sparkley glitter wasnt enough apparently.

TOOL thieves suck, big time! The movie Plup Fiction comes to mind when it comes to tool thieves.

I read that in Fro-zone's voice from The Incredibles when he is asking his wife about his supersuit, and then I realized it's the same voice. I was just applying that cadence to it.

I fired a guy off my team(sick) because he pranked (maybe)another guy by taking a long 1/2 inch ratchet. He bought it for a specific job and he went and bought another one. Then I saw the prankster walking back in the shop with it and putting it back on the guys box.
Nope that’s not gonna fly. Took the cost of the tool out of his last check and we pushed his box out the door.
Saw him years later and he was all friendly and I asked him if he had stolen anything this week with his (I think) wife next to him…
We use to keep boxes unlocked and tools out overnight.

A prank is turning someone’s box around so the drawers face the wall. Taking the magnetic draw labels (yes this guy actually labeled each drawer) and switching them.

    Harmless….

I hope there’s a place in hell for people like him…

I’m assuming you guys used Snap On or Mac tools, or the go to standard Craftsman for the cost.
We hot glued a guy’s wood tool box to the floor on a boat once, just enough to hold it down a bit. He knew the gig was up almost immediately, he started the joke, it was still funny as hell

Well, my assumptions were correct. One of the builders grabbed it. SPECIFICALLY ASKED THEM IF THEY DID AND TO PLEASE CHECK THEIR TOOLS. “Nope, not here”. The drill magically turned up this morning the next building over. “We found your drill”. Thats cool, wheres my $200 battery? “It didnt have the battery”. Well it fucking sure as shit did yesterday because I was using it. I ripped the place apart looking for it. Nothing. Buying a new one and billing it to the job. Fuck em.

Maybe this isn't a good idea for reasons, but I would complain in writing to the supervisor of the builders, or the site super, or both. Anytime we share a site I get a business card for the contact info, for business stuff but also for stuff like this.

I think there's a chance you aren't the only one missing tools. A thief is a thief and they can't help but steal. Sounds like you got the word out.

Thats the third battery my employer said has gone missing in three months just with the electricians. He lost a two week old 8.0ah forge battery and a regular 8.0ah. Same deal, sets them down to go take care or something and it was absent shortly after he returned. The super and manager were on site this morning and got shoulder shrugs from them as well. Told him im spending time and billing for moving every tool that belongs to me every time I move anywhere on site. Including the next room over. He thinks im joking, my employer knows im not and gave me a thumbs up. When the drill turned up they added that it had a 1 1/8” diablo paddle bit in it. I dont use those, and not that size. Made me think plumber (pex holes). Plumbers are getting a shakedown next time theyre on site. I will not let this go..

Just start asking people if they're missing that bit, or conspicuously try holes with it until you find one.
