    random conversation starter.

What tools are you do it yourselfers buying these days, with Craftsman no longer supported the way it was when sears was in business.

(this assumes you're not a pro wrench with a 100K worth of Snap on or Matco tools along the wall)

Seems the brands I use to buy have all been bought up. Now I'm keen on this European brand Wera. very nice stuff. just had a couple more pieces arrive today in anticipation of the motorcycle project I'll be digging into this weekend.

Luckily I acquired most of my tools in my younger years, a lot of good Craftsman stuff, some MAC. Now my go to is MAC if I need something good. I traded a broken ratchet at Lowe's not long ago and the Craftsman quality just isn't there like it once was.

I've bought some overseas stuff before but was wrenching on a 1992 Toyota truck I had once and the open end wrench broke and hit me in the forehead, about knocked me out, it was a 3/4".

I have slowly accumulated tools as needed like most of us, never had a big purchase just to fill the tool box.

Sockets I have a couple smaller sets of craftsman, mix of the Sears era stuff and a couple pieces from Lowe's. I've heard really good things about Grey Pneumatic sets (made in Taiwan I believe). They will probably be my next set.

Wrench's I have a set of craftsman in large sizes, crescent in smaller sizes and a small gearwrench set 8, 10, 12 and 14mm I think from Costco in the truck. I actually don't care for the craftsman ones, they're the older ratcheting style with the button/flipper on the side.

Other hand tools is even more of a mixed bag. Everything I've read Wera brand looks great BTW. I have some Irwin, mostly screwdrivers, saws clamps etc. No complaints with them. For torx, allen and star wrenchs I have Bondhus. These are made in the US and reasonably priced IMO, they have many different styles as well to suit your needs.

Heh, I normally go for the Monday Dew Kickstart. They have better flavors. Today turned into a coffee and nicotine day though, lol. Gonna be a long evening...

Here's my close to stock 2003 Tacoma, 203K miles. Bought the shell almost a year ago, no plans of color matching it, put a roof rack on it off of an older 4runner.

If those things didn't rot out so bad here I'd definitely have one of those as a winter rat!

Great looking truck! I actually like mismatched toppers. Have a friend that has moved his white one through 3 F-150s; blue, red and now grey.
