If I was just above the add mark after the engine had been sitting for a half hour. I'd add 1/2 a quart and wait another 30 minutes to let the added oil drain down to the oil pan. Then recheck the oil level.

Everyone has their own way of checking oil.
The problem is when type 1 checks type 2 and vice versa.

So find your own way to do it and make it yours.

Exactly. I've got lots of time so l usually check it in the morning, just because it's convenient that way. Not because it's the best way.

    I usually check in August.

    Sometimes September. But not both.

I see no reason you shouldn't get an aftermarket unit.

    Throw up the question here:

Saturday or Sunday mornings tend to be the time I check oil in all 3 vehicles, quick inspection of belts, hoses and other fluids...and top off the washer fluid too

Thanks, I'll do that. I may check the pick and pull when I'm in the neighborhood. Just thinking oem may have the best mounting. Annoying they dropped the cooler from the towing package two weeks before my truck was built.

I was checking mine every other fill up at gas stations... finish filling the tank, pop the hood, check the oil. Haven't needed to with the new truck yet since it hasn't been driven really
