    haha right.

The new 4 runner powertrain i will put fucking MONEY on it being the same 3.5L and 6 spd trans found in the taco and nothing more. Taco will have the same motor (3.5+6sp auto) from 2016-2026 without a damn doubt.

I think there is a good chance that the 4R will get an 8 speed like the Highlander (which shifts amazingly well btw). I don't have any fucking money. I don't have to pay for it though.

Hopefully they bring over the 4.6 instead. The 3.5 in the 4Runner would be a turd

the old antiquated from 2006 1UR-FE? Not happening, that motor has been in the lexus 4 runner (GX460) for like 10 years now. I mean it would be cool, honestly they should of just slapped the 1UR-FSE in the tacoma with the 6sp auto and it would of been a truck that got better mpg and way better driveability over the anemic 3.5.

But seriously, dont get your hopes up with some fancy new engine in the 4 runner, not after they put all this time and effort into the 3.5L 2GR-FKS.

I believe that we'll either have a hybrid Tacoma or diesel Tacoma option for the 4th generation.

If your Toyota and where secretly working on a diesel project for a new market, would you admit to it and show your cards to the competition?

Point is, they probably have a diesel option sitting on a skunk works shelf. We will know about it when they want us to know about it.

Its fine to speculate, but its kind of dumb to think it will never happen knowing they have diesel tech in other regions of the world.

Toyota has had diesels internationally for an extremely long time. They just don’t really have much incentive to release them in the US

no incentive yet, if competition and demand deemed it necessary they would roll them out.

The bigger issue in the US in particular I have found is emissions requirements on Diesels. All the garbage emissions tech that diesels are being forced to use make them unpractical for everyday driving. At least that's what I've found in the truck world. Not sure if this is unique to the full size trucks out there, but if you where using a diesel super duty style truck to get groceries and commuting to work, maintenance costs could be absurd. Those diesel truck engines are designed for highway, hauling and towing.

I don't own a diesel, but I was shopping for one to pull a camper and I found the biggest issues involve the emissions components failing due to low exhaust temps.

Sure you can cheat and remove all that emissions junk, but pretty soon all diesels are gonna be closely monitored for emissions.

    http://dieselemissionsservice.com/2018/12/07/new-carb-real-requirements-for-emissions-data/

With laws like that on the horizon, its less and less likely toyota will step in with any diesel options at all.

Ain't gonna happen. Same deal with my X5 oil burner and why I've still held on it (walked out on a 2018 OR deal).

BMW also dropped the diesel X5 last year due to the emission issue in US and the moutain that they have to move now with politics. Now it's just the gaser and the hydrid engines.

90k on my X5 now and nothing like driving from Sacramento to Oregon on a single tank of diesel.

Funny enough, before I decided to get a Tacoma I was seriously considering a 2011-2013 BMW X5 diesel. I've always owned BMW sedans and coupes and I decided that I wanted a bigger vehicle. I'm glad that I went with the Tacoma because I can have much more fun in it but I still wonder.

I predict the values of yesterday's diesel truck will go up the more laws clamp down.
