I read plenty kid, I also take it upon myself to fix concerns I have instead of whining on a message board. Fyi had my fluids checked, for assurances and paid to have the service done when found to be correct amounts. Also checked torque on my u joints and guess what, no fucking howl.

I make a good wage and earn my money like the rest, I certainly don't give it away but I don't sit and let shit happen and expect others to come to the rescue when I can figure out a remedy for my problem.

You must not read because I already told you a few posts up to talk to your service manager.

Also reported Jason for calling someone kid. Highly condescending and I didn't appreciate his tone. I'm very offended.

What your not getting is that I have done all of those things. Checked fluid myself when I first heard the howl at about 1500 miles. Torqued and greased U joints. Took it to dealer, they inspected and test drove and acknowledged the noise was coming from rear diff. Had me bring truck back so "engineers" from Toyota could inspect it. Again acknowledged noise from rear diff. Deemed it normal and told me not to worry because if it fails it would be covered. I'm not worried about it failing, I want the noise addressed. If you think you prevented your diff from developing a howl, you're wrong. You just got lucky. Don't imply that I'm some whiney keyboard jockey. I've been turning wrenches for 30 years, I have exhausted my options here. If I thought it would fix it, I would replace the ring and pinion myself but many others have had theirs replaced by Toyota and the howl came back. I come here in hopes of finding out that Toyota finally releases a TSB that fixes this problem or that someone else has figured it out. It's all I got at this point. Frustrated yes, whining no. I'm not going to hold back info about my experience out of fear of hurting some fanboys feelings. Not necessarily calling you a fanboy Jason but just because your truck doesn't have a particular issue doesn't mean everybody who does is a whiney idiot.

Maybe I just took care of things before there was any excessive wear to cause the noise I don't know . All I know is my fluids were correct my u joints were greasd and torqued correctly even before I put significant miles on the truck and I check them regularly so I don't have any howl

I love my truck. Big time upgrade from my 2001 taco. Don't get me wrong I also loved the old taco as well. I replaced my wheels and tires when I was at around 300 miles on the odometer, so I can't really tell if I have a howl or not.

How many miles on yours? I have had 9 or 10 trucks in my lifetime, 4 Toyotas before this one and all bought used except one 2000 taco. Only one of them ever had any differential howl and who knows if they were maintained properly before I got them. The one that did was a ford that had a new ring and pinion installed before I got it. Guess what? It wasn't shimmed properly and made the exact noise I'm getting from my taco. I fixed the ford but I'm not willing to tare down the diff and void my warranty on my new truck. Plus I expect it is something more obscure than improperly meshed gears such as bad tempering of the steel or some hard to pinpoint harmonic resonance. A truck shouldn't come out of the factory like that. So again, you just got lucky. It has nothing to do with preventative maintenance.

They did. The fallacy being many of the problems (like my rear diff and driveline vibrations) are deemed as "normal for the vehicle" by corporate.... even though the first time around they replaced my rear diff under warranty.

Look, not trying to be an ass or anything but I prefer to address problems myself to reach solutions and engage the people that can help me fix my issues at hand. That means taking it to the people that are supposed to fix the truck to my satisfaction. If they fail to do so I take it somewhere else or look to resolve it myself if I plan to keep the truck.

First thing I did was have fluids checked before delivery and offered to pay any extra labor. I developed a good relationship with my service manager and he's always been amicable to address my concerns. Haven't been afraid to crawl under my truck from time to time to check things out and any questions, I bring them to his attention. He is in a position to get things corrected and it works. Complaining about any issues I think I have on any car or truck I own on any message board has not fixed my problem. Asking for information about resolving issues does work and I put them to use.

Not saying boards are bad, I get a lot of good information from posts but the many complaint threads do get tiring especially if the poster hasnt done anything to look into the issue themselves or bother to get the right people engaged at fixing the problem.
