What method did you use in order to get enough bend in it to get the tailgate TSB done? Any idea of how much weight it takes to get a bend?

Tried getting the dealership to just go ahead and replace it with out being bent while they were doing the harsh ride and vibration TSB service, but no such luck.

I load my 500lb quad on mine with me sittin on it! That's 700lbs and mine has not bent! I can't believe it! I thought for sure it would break, but so far it hasn't.

i hit a tree with mine; put a nice dent in it. You should test this out and let us know how much weight it takes to taco the tailgate.

i'll be honest here...im going to laugh if your tailgate isnt one of the easily bent ones and you get it bent anyways and then you still cant get the TSB done...

Why would you intentionally bend your tailgate? It's bad enough when people make up "bottoming out" experiences that they never have in order to get the spring TSB, but completely fabricating a problem that you have never experienced just to make them do warranty work?

Does "fraud" show up in your dictionary?

I just brought in a printout of the Bent Tailgate TSB and the Dealer Service Tech hooked me up without further questioning or challenging. But becareful if you have the White Taco. THe paint job the dealership's paint department does, DOES NOT match the original "Super White" color scheme. I had to argue, argue, and then more argue to the point that I ended up settling for a "LIFETIME" Paint quality guarnatee thing on the GATE as long as I own the truck. I had the Dealership Mgr guy state it in the receipt and sign it.

I have only had my truck for a few thousand miles (bought used) and have not had a chance to test the strength of the tailgate. Rather than paying to replace a bent tailgate down the road I would rather have it replaced with the tailgate that should have been on the truck from the beginning, under warranty.

And no, fraud is not in my dictionary.

Can someone link the TSB? I'm always worried when I step on it and now I'm wondering what years and vins were affected.

Stand in the middle of it, if it warps you're good.....If not then you're fine. Personally I wouldn't go out of my way to f' up your tailgate. You run more of a risk of having a worse problem..i.e. paint not matching, getting a worse tailgate, or worse having the dealer tell you to go f' yourself.....it happens. It seems our tailgates are hit or miss. Mine hasn't been a problem (knock on wood) and mine isn't one of the reinforced ones. I've stood in the middle of mine with no problem and I weigh 215. My father in law has jumped on mine trying to purposely f' mine up because he hates Toyota's and he weighs 245. I've loaded my share of heavy loads on my tailgate...so far so good.... There have been numerous issues with the "reinforced" tailgate. You should be happy you don't have a problem.....my recommendation, don't go looking for one....
