What he said....60-65mph on hwy, barely push the gas, as soon you try to pass someone it will drop mpg. Also get behind a semi, but don't be stupid close, even 50ft away, it still help mpg. Look up Mythbusters on getting behind a 18 wheeler.

Yep and two overdrive gears will hunt at certain speeds. It's not really a defect, just something to learn how to adapt to. Eventually it smooths out.

No problems at all with my transmission, just different than my old 5 speed.

I am not a person whining about transmission. But this thread has opened my eyes some... I apparently do not know how to drive efficiently.

I didn't like the automatic at first coming from a 6 speed manual but as the truck learn my driving habits it gets better and better

That's extremely strange. I have the same truck. My tank average (combo of about 50% highway/country roads and 50% city) has been consistently at 22+ mpg. That's calculated manually, not computer readout. It would be nice if Toyota could figure out what the deal is! Unless you let your truck run to warm up for a 1/2 hour every day, I can't see even approaching that bad of mileage. I usually just run in S-4 around town and S-5 on back country roads that are twisty. Perhaps all the owners of the "low mpg" rigs should sent a letter to Toyota asking what the problem is.

No excessive warm up unless it's cold. I do very little or "no" highway miles, just the normall driving around one would do in the smallish Appalachians of Western Pa. I did switch from the stock 245's to 265's almost immediately though. Not sure that would effect it a whole lot, would it? I'm happy with it, I'm not complaining unless I should... Fuelly tells the real story on fuel economy for this truck. Averages are closer between 18 - 19 mpg. Anything outside of that range is an outlier

the average for the 2016 V6s on Fuelly is around 18.6, which is pretty much what I am averaging. Not sure how others are getting such high MPG. A large portion of my driving is highway, where I get around 20-22 MPG.

Rather than seeing their narrow samples of snapshots in time I'd respect their numbers more if they actually recorded it in a program like fuelly
