I've been reading through threads both here and on other forums regarding removal of the front air dam. The slight drop in MPG doesn't bother me, but while reading I noticed people saying their trucks were less stable at highway speeds without the dam, especially on windy days. This kind of puzzles me since the OR and Pro don't even come with it, so I'm wondering if this is butt dyno observation or is it really true? If it's true I would think twice. This is really the only thing stopping me from grabbing my 10mm socket and having at it. Thanks!

Why do you want to remove it?

No problems at all. I threw it away, no regrets. Not even a drop in mpg, but I also took a hit from heavier tires and a lift so I wasn't getting 22 mpg anyway

I didn't notice any decrease in MPG, nor any stability issues.

To give the truck a more aggressive look, and to be able to add a TRD skid plate, demon brackets, and D ring hooks to the front of the truck. Really comes down to personal preference for me, but I'm not gonna do it if it makes the truck less stable on the highway.

It does not affect the stability. Will slightly increase the wind noise.

I'm sure it is inherently less stable, but that doesn't mean it is unstable. My TRDOR does not have one and it drives very smooth and stable. I actually appreciated the stability even more when I got back into it after nearly two weeks on vacation with a Jeep Wrangler JL. I also drive a Ford Ranger XLT and didn't notice any real difference in stability.

As for MPG: I don't think it affects it that much. Someone conducted an experiment with the GM twins and their chin spoiler. They found that the truck gained 1 MPG in the city and lost 1 MPG on the highway (could have been the other way around). I'd venture to say that's within a margin of error that could be entirely related to drive style, conditions, etc. I wouldn't worry about it too much from an MPG standpoint.

Removed mine, I really didn’t notice anything at all one way or the other. I think it looks better without it.

I removed mine last weekend after owning the taco for a year. I've thought from the beginning, when comparing to other Tacos on the road that didn't have one, that it made my truck look more car-like, which is why I removed it.

I removed mine after my lift. It didn't look right after the vehicle was raised.

Took mine off a few days after bringing it home. It sat on the shelf for three years.. I just threw it out after getting tired of looking at it. Mileage didn’t even change.

    Don't ask the internet.

Remove it and see for yourself, related to both MPG or stability. If you don't like what happens, put it back on.

    Easy Peasy.

I assure you Toyota didn’t put it in because it does nothing.

I never bothered to compare MPG before and after. It's been 6 years, never noticed any difference in highway handling.
