Did your check engine light ever come on? Or even if it didn’t did the truck run worse?

What happened that causes these questions? When i put my magmaflow exhust on I thought my tuck ran better with the added air flow. Sounds better imo too

I’m in the market for a new muffler. I’ll be ordering it this week, but I wanted to make sure Scotty Kilmer wasn’t right about not swapping in a new muffler

Lol scotty, as long as you dont get a cheap after market muffler that restricts air flow then you should be fine, anything of equal to the oem ones air flow and you will be fine

Swapping to an aftermarket muffler should never cause the CEL to come on. If you're taking out the catalytic convertor then the light will definitely come in.

I ran straight pipe in my idiot college days for about a year with no issues. Before that, I had a flowmaster for 3 years. Then I put an OE equivalent Bosal on.. the baffling fell apart within 2 years. Now I have a Dynomax... still no issues.

Mufflers are at the end of the exhaust, past your o2 sensors so there is no logical way a muffler would cause a CEL. Unless your truck comes with a compression release engine brake that are normally found on diesels. That's obv not the case.

As far as losing power, when you open up the exhaust you will lose torque in the bottom end (low rpm's) and gain hp in the top end (high rpm's). Mufflers can provide back pressure to keep torque, BUT if it's only a muffler I would say the differences are going to be negligible.

Who is this Scotty? If he is someone who had his CEL come on after putting a muffler on, I wouldn't think I'd want to follow his advise on anything to do with auto repair...

Seems like you'd have to really screw up the installation...

Well if you buy a cat back system and forget to re-plug your o2 sensor then you will get a CEL and that's probably the only reason you would.

I watched one video of his about replacing a clutch, and now I see suggestions on why CAI / Aftermarker Exhaust / Ext. Are bad. Kinda annoying.

Yeah, I stopped watching after it looked like he was going to drink it (maybe he did?).

This guy seemed more like a chemtrail/moonlandings are fake kinda guy than a auto repair expert. Like he throws out a bunch of big words to make it sound like he knows what he's talking about, but it's all just meaningless incoherent ramblings of a syphilitic brain.

I find him humorous. Remember, not all mechanics are car guys.

I like the one where he was saying CAI are bad and was showing off a short ram intake instead and calling it a cold air intake.
