Just got me a new 2021 SR5 DC 4wd. I've always had a locking gas cap and I bought a Stant 10504 cap for this one. When it is locked and you try to turn it counter clockwise to verify it is, it's really stiff. Is this normal? The Stant one on my 2004 Tacoma is very easy to turn. Just checking before I return it. I hope my wording makes sense. Thank you.

Not sure about if the stiffness is normal or not, but I tried out a locking gas cap from Autozone and it made my check engine light come on about a week into using it, and I had to go back to my OEM cap. Has anyone had a locking cap for more than a few weeks and not gotten the check engine light? If so what brand/model works?

I have one on the truck that I got from NAPA, it's been on there almost 2 weeks now with no issues. I just don't like the way it locks, I'm just used to the Stant one.

I've had the stant locking gas cap for over a year now, idk about you'd call it stiff, seems normal to me. Mine was added at the dealer when i ordered my truck, so i really have no idea whats normal and not. Gas cap has been working fine so far.

If the right person wants your gasoline, they are going to cut a hole in the plastic gas tank and drain it all out.

True, but hopefully they’ll move on to the car parked in the next stall instead. That said I don’t use a locking gas cap but if siphoning was rampant near me and I lived in an apartment I probably would.

Not worried about theft. It's about vandalism and contamination. When I was younger I've always heard about people putting stuff in your tank out of pure meanness. I live in a nice area now and that probably will never happen but it's just a cheap insurance policy in my mind.
