I am just curious if you guys experience the same hell I did before I stopped drinking. The entire reason I stopped drinking was because of the hangovers, and I actually miss having a beer or two. I think it's been almost 3 years since I have even had a sip. I am thinking about having one soon but I am deathly afraid of the ensuing "death".

I think it started around 35, the hangovers got worse and worse until I simply couldn't handle it. I wasn't even getting drunk, just having a few beers yet the next day I was pretty much dead. The last straw was when I started getting panic attacks the morning after drinking, when I had never had them before.

I just turned 40, and all my friends still seem able to drink without being too bad off the next day, so I am just wondering what other people in our age group do abouthngover.

    Happy Friday

Sounds like alcohol intolerance. It's genetic. You can try benadryl but then you just pass out. Good luck

My understanding is hangovers largely come from dehydration caused by the alcohol. When you're finished drinking try consuming some water. It'll go a long way toward helping. You'll probably be up urinating anyway.

    Don’t do it.
If you did without for 3 yrs it’s probably for a good reason.
If you must try a non alcohol brew. There’s a ton on the market.

I drank for like 15 years with a normal hangover level though, so maybe it just came on later?

I know of the hell you speak. Not even close to worth it. I'm 63 and probably have not been fairly drunk since my early 50's.......yeah ok not blind drunk since my early 20's! That much alcohol is TERRIBLE for your body. Mind included. It's shitty, but you can learn to have one and done. Not difficult, IMHO.

One beer or glass of wine with dinner. I'm fine, this amount is good for your health. Heck, sometimes my wife and I share a single beer.

    You can do it.

Simple fix, don't drink anything with sugar, including beer or wine. I never get a hangover.. I drink either top shelf bourbon straight or with water. Mix it with NOTHING other than water. Whiskey and water is simply the best drink there is because of it. I basically never ever get a hangover and I can get hammered drunk. I can also drink an entire fifth of Patron Silver, again it must be drank straight up. I don't know if I am right or not, but it's the sugar in anything that makes me sick the next day. If I drink Captain and Coke? 3 of them and the next day I will be on the couch all day. I can have 10 Makers Marks and water and go to work the next day no problem.

Agree here. I'm in my 50's and have a few drinks every evening.
A couple pours of a good Bourbon before Dinner. And maybe a pour or 2 of a good Scotch after Dinner. Never feel it getting up at 4:30 each morning.
But I would agree with some others. If I hadn't has a drink in 3 years. I wouldn't have another.

41 year old male here. While I don’t want to encourage you to start drinking again but if you do I’d recommend drinking a lot of water while doing so. In my late 30s the hangovers became almost unbearable. The obvious became more apparent that, like someone said above, hangovers are largely because of dehydration. Now, I drink at least a large glass of water and sometimes even 2 glasses of water between each beer when I do drink. And sometimes I’ll take some headache relief meds before going to bed after a long night of drinking. It’s seemed to really help out with the hangovers.

Yo beers are great fun and all but I'm wondering what may be taking you to the point of wanting to drink again from sobriety? Might be a deeper question to ask yourself but do you really want to drink beers again, or are you being pressured/FOMO'd into it?

Drinking just brings on health problems and spending money on overpriced drinks.

That said, lots of 0% beers are actually pretty good (Heineken specifically) if you really just want a nice refreshing brew without the rest of the nonsense.

-Beer drinker who knows better but cant stop/wont stop.

Sounds like more than just your average hangover to me, I'm 36 and a few drinks won't cause me any sort of hangover. If I'm camping with friends or something and have more than a few, then yeah. But that's expected when over-indulging. One or two beers causing a deathly hangover though sounds like something else is going on, like an allergy or sensitivity to an ingredient maybe. Not sure.

Early 50s here. It all started catching up with me in my early 40s. Now anytime I have more than 2 beers/glasses of wine/mixed drinks I have headache at night and basically waste of the next day. So here's the thing... like stated above, stay hydrated, avoid drinks with sugar, and also avoid desserts that are loaded with sugar. Cake, cookies, ice-cream -- they all exacerbate the suffering. That whiskey and water advice is good, too. And of course everything in moderation. Cheers!

All of this and throw in a multivitamin too! A Dr. friend told me this. Not sure if it works, I don’t have multivitamins at my house.

This was exactly my feeling as well. That's why I was asking people of the same age, to see what their experience is like. For me it was the nausea that is killer. A few years ago I got everything checked out and everything was normal according to the doctors.

To be perfectly honest, I just missed the taste and enjoying a craft beer every now and then. Definitely don't want to get drunk.
