Hello all. Just thought I'd say what's up as i am now in the Tacoma club. My 2017 Texas Edition 1500 Silverado had a total transmission failure at 77k miles... starting acting up at 65k had it broken down, drained and serviced for about $400. It held on ok for the next 10k miles and then last week it just completely tore itself apart on the inside. Long story short I had positive equity in it, but still owed about 13k on it (it was a $41,000 truck in 2018) so there was no way i was gonna spend 6 grand and wait 6-8 weeks to have another of the same, b.s. GM transmission put in it. I really love the full size and great ride it had with all the bells and whistles as it was loaded, but all that means nothing if the powertrain is crap.
It's just too bad that I was basically forced out of it and into a new truck during this bogus period in our history. They had the msrp on the 2022 SR5 Tacoma v6 double cab at $35,500 with +$500 for black wheels and running boards (which was fine the stock wheels are hideous) +250 for some anti fading/ chipping ZAKTEK ceramic coating and then +$5,000 for "market adjustment" They are marking up their cars criminal amounts to try to offset the difference from lack of sales due to low inventory. They wanted $71000 for a TSS Tundra with no power seats, cloth interior, no remote start after a 15k markup for "market adjustment."
Personally i think you'd have to be an idiot to even pay 55k for a truck with almost 0 options on it, regardless of how long it will supposedly last. In the end I'm happy with the new truck although it is much smaller and much less luxurious, just pissed off that the trading in luxury for reliability didn't at least come with a lower monthly payment. Pretty much paying an identical amount a month to drive a small, somewhat optioned truck as i was with a FULLY LOADED v8 half ton. What a time to be alive i suppose. At least i cleaned the dealerships clock with the trade in (felt like i did anyway.) I had it's transmission band aided and engine codes cleared by my mechanic the day before i took it for trade in. It behaved just long enough at the dealership to convince them it was a strong running, well taken care of truck. It was extremely well taken care of, just not strong running. I figured it had about 50-100 more miles left in it before it just flat out wouldn't engage a gear at all. They gave me 24k for it.

    welcome aboard.

GM used to be a fine company. But that's sadly no longer the case.

    Welcome to TW.

You were forced to buy a new truck and pay 5000.00 market adjustment? I have some things to sell your new Tacoma that are a necessity....trust me. There is a market adjustment though....

Oh no, i guess i should clarify that, they wanted me to pay it, but i got it down from there. Basically i had to finance through Toyota to get their awesome 5.4%apr (another attempted hosing) and they took off the 5 grand. As soon as my credit union gets the check for the pay off on the Silverado, I'm refinancing to a 2.5% rate.
But yes i was basically forced to buy a new truck. I work out of it, i have to have a truck to work. Mine stopped working much too early, and i couldn't wait on repairs. So yeah, my back was against the wall there. I got mine out the door for 36k even, which is still too much for a tacoma but it's alot better than 41k before ttl.

    Welcome. We like paragraphs here.

You could have just left the part out where you traded your broken truck in as some sort of trick. Strange way to introduce yourself.

It's never ends well when the opening gambit is whining.

A prince of a guy you are.

I will say it was one of the more 'interesting' intro posts we've had in the New Members forum. Then again, I always found my mother in laws casserole experiments 'interesting' as well.

You have brainwashed yourself. Plenty of $15k trucks out there that don't require debt and (presumably) your seven year loan or whatever

You're right there are a lot of 15k trucks out there. 15k on a used vehicle used to mean (as in about 2 years ago) you're getting something pretty damn nice with reasonable miles on it.
Have you looked to see what 15k buys right now? Would you pay 15k for decade old truck with a banged out, scratched up interior with someone elses farts embedded in the seats with over 90k miles on it? Because that's what they are currently going for. I don't mind making payments on a new vehicle, been doing it for years. i wasnt in a situation where i could drive all over the state for weeks looking at dealerships. The one i picked up was the ONLY one available within 50 miles that had the package i needed. The pickings were that slim.

    Exactly dude.

yeah i started out soap boxing a little bit with the criminally inflated car prices but we got people on here white knighting for a dealership...

New car dealership, the epitome of honesty and integrity.

Thank you! I'll start using that logic with my customers when i want to jack my service rate up to more than double just because i feel like it. " you've never charged this much to just run network cables in a new office suite."

"This isn't gonna end well for you if you start out with whining!"

I used to belong to a saltwater reef aquarium forum for years. That hobby in general is plagued with this kind of flawed mentality. This is only the second forum I've ever joined and now i see it's not isolated to "reef people" but rather "forum people"

Your integrity is your own, no one takes it from you; but you gave it up by choice. Hiding the transmission issues during the trade in is dishonest. Dealerships charging outrageous "market adjustments" is their own fault, that doesn't mean you have to be dishonest.
