    Hey all,

My wife has the 2018 Fusion and recently we received a letter from Ford informing us of proactive service they want to perform because "It's possible for coolant intrusion into the cylinder bores which can lead to coolant loss, white smoke and can lead to engine damage"

Ford wants to provide free service, because they care so much, by performing a software update to the PCM to improve engine cooling....

Ummm, what they're describing sounds like a potential for a blown head gasket to me...Unless someone has any insight as to how a software upgrade to the PCM will fix this unless maybe it has to do with the engine fans engaging...

What you people think??? Sounds to me like Ford is owning the problem but coming up with an entirely BS fix.

Probably changes the temperature that make the fans come on sooner so the car doesn’t overheat sitting in traffic. I would say that they have had a few irate owners with blown head gaskets and warped heads so trying to cover their bases.

There's nothing wrong with a software update, take it in and let them do it

You could always call the dealership and ask how the update addresses the coolant issue

My cousin had a 2009 Ford Fusion that she bought used; Apparently, that generation had issues with the brakes that Ford refused to fix! The brakes consistently felt "mushy" due to a defective master cylinder design or something; The part costs a fortune to replace, and my cousin and her fiance said there was no point in replacing it because the part would have the same defective design.

My cousin ditched the Fusion and bought a 1998 Honda Civic hatchback with 70K original miles for $2,500; She hasn't been happier!

My advice? Ditch the Ford and get an Accord, Camry, or Legacy!

    Agreed

Oh yea definitely taking it in still.

Oh yea she chose the Fusion over a toyota. Good thing is it's a lease so there's still options. Perhaps I can get her in a Camry next they look Hella nice now.

Won't be a problem for much longer. All the Ford sedans including the Fusion got axed this year. Ford is now a truck and SUV company with the odd Mustang sale here and there.

Take a look at this video, and the viewer comments.

It very well could be that the high compression is causing the cylinder head to lift up off the block, and causing the water leak.

I think they still make the Focus...

Seriously though, the only thing Ford really did right was trucks, SUVs, and performance cars!

Yes, this guy and me are on the same page with wondering how a re-program will fix it without retarding power of the engine..

Not sure, the letter did not have a TSB # assigned.

So yea about the comments section, a few people can agree on one thing, Ford is puting a bandaid on an issue they know will probably return after the warranty period. Sounds like they are scaling back performance somehow so a head gasket doesn't prematurely wear out.

Things like this is exactly why I chose a Tacoma over the new Ford Ranger.

I had a 2011 Edge sport which I loved and treated me very well. It was the 3.7 n/a duratec engine. I wanted a pickup truck and fell in love with the Ranger but then again, I did NOT want a turbo..Then Ford came out with the Ranger recall with the blower motor issue and it was then I just set my sights on the Tacoma. The rest is history....

Now to get my wife to fall in love with a Camry....LOL
