Thanks for the input, very interesting.

The link below contains an overview of the 2.0 liter “Twin-scroll” I4 EcoBoost engine.

    http://wardsauto.com/technology/ford-4-cyl-ecoboost-powerful-versatile-and-efficient

"Producing 252 hp and 270 lb.-ft. (366 Nm) of torque, the latter at a low 2,500 rpm in the Focus ST, the I-4 also has a turbo “overboost” feature that increases turning force an extra 20 lb.-ft. (27 Nm) for up to 15 seconds from 3,000-4,500 rpm. Despite all this power, the U.S. EPA rates the 2.0L EcoBoost at 23/32 mpg (10.2-7.3 L/100 km) city/highway."

I think I could live with something along these lines.

If they mimic the current F-150 front end (which seems logical) it should look pretty good. These concept photos I'm seeing all remind me of Ford front ends from the 2010 timeframe...Fusion, Taurus, etc.

I seriously think this idea/rumor has been floated since 2013/2014.

    Its too car like.
I saw a 4 door Ranger in South Africa about 6 years ago. Looked very nice. Almost like a cross between the new F150 and the older Rangers in the US. It was boxy and truck like. I would buy it.

I doubt the ranger we get looks like the global ranger, I bet more f150 like. Just like we dont get the more car looking hilux here.

Exactly, if they're going to reintroduce the Ranger here they'll redesign it to fit the US market. Given the technologies and performance it should offer I'm not overly concerned with look...my trucks get used, not shown off.

I just hope they make a standard transmission option, but I'm not holding my breath. The ecoboost's are getting good numbers with just a tune and down pipe, minor exhaust work. They are having some hickups with the pcv? system filling the turbo up with oil though in the mustangs. Also the pic in the first post of this thread is hideous looking to me. My wife had a 2000 something ranger when we got married and when we sold it it had 360000km on it and was still running strong. The new ford stuff is really reliable as far as I've seen/ read and my 5.0 F150 is awesome for a work truck. Ya, I'm a ford fanboy:crapstorm:

I don't have much brand loyalty one way or the other, and most auto makers are putting out great vehicles these days. That said, I'm very impressed with Ford recently...they're leading the way when it comes to integrating new technologies into their products and their revised performance division has put out some great vehicles recently (GT350, Raptor, Focus RS), with something like 12 models planned through 2020.

As I've said on this forum before, I was very disappointed when Toyota released the 'new' Tacoma recently. I had high hopes for the 'new' Tacoma and in my opinion they opted to punt. If that is the way Toyota is going to go with the Tacoma model in the future I'm definitely open to exploring other options when I decide to swap out my current Tacoma. Don't get me wrong, I like my Tacoma a lot...but I also recognize that it is lacking in several areas.

My intent in creating this post wasn't to start a pissing match or troll Toyota fan-boys, just figured a new entry into the mid-size truck market would be worth discussing on this forum. :)

The copper one has a toned down 2016 Tacoma front end, but I like the numbers on the 2.7.

The black one is a Nissan shaped clone.

F..oooo..ug..ooo ....uggu..jjj.jjj.....rrrrrd ( I can hardly say the word), needs to stop trying to copy.

I have not read up much on the 2.7 ecoboost, but I know from the mustang forums the 2.3's start to pop around 420 torque, still no slouch though.

Looks like an Explorer Sport Trac to me... And based on the shape (similar to Honda's Ridgeline) it looks like it might be a unibody "truck". No thanks...

It's body on frame. Internationally it runs side by side with the Hilux and has some impressive offroad credibility stock in Australia.

I had a Ranger forever too. The gas mileage though was too tough to cover as a student. It never let me down but I had to sell it. I still see it around. I love my Tacoma but if it wasn't for the Ranger proving to me that small trucks are worth it I never would of bought a Tacoma after graduating university.

I have 2x F150 5.0L trucks. It's a long story but ours haven't even hiccuped. They are solid trucks.
