Tells me a few things. Ford can't build a car to compete with Toyota Honda etc.
Also wait til gas prices surge because of a global event or whatever and people flock back to economy cars instead of trucks and suvs. Ford will have nothing to sell.
Bad move. They should have become a better competitor rather than bailing.

Why X the Taurus when they will most likely continue producing the PI model.

    Many & varied
It is very shortsighted on Ford's part, but the sedans were hemorrhaging cash. I've never liked the Fusion. The Taurus is a nice looking car in top trim level. People are simply buying generic bubble crossovers these days and can't seem to get enough of them. Many of those CUVs are built on car chassis, so if they need to switch back in the future, they have the groundwork laid out for the transition. I can't think of anyone successfully building a car to compete with the Civic and Camry.

By the time they realize they need to switch back it will be a couple of years from conception to design to production and then customers have to bite. They're eventually gone imo.

I’m pretty sure they know what they're doing. Why continue to make something that doesn’t sell well? Just like when they axed the Bronco and Ranger. Those segments lost popularity, and now that people want them again, they are coming back.

I wondered that also. I’d say 90% plus law enforcement agencies use this car. Looks like Chevrolet and Dodge will be getting the market.

If they knew what they were doing they would be competing with Toyota and Honda now wouldn't they.
Now they reintroduce a truck with only one engine a 4 cylinder. Really ?

Around here pretty much everything is an Explorer now. State Police and Local Police use them. I haven't seen many cars since the Crown Vics.

Environmental police use F-150s. I think there are a few normal state police F-150s as well.

Here it’s still mostly cars however I’ve heard agencies can buy the explorer for similar money. You may be right!

This is also New England, where most people have 4WD or AWD vehicles.

And how many years has the F series been the top selling truck? They are not having any problem making money.

A four cylinder that will make more power and get better mpg's than what Toyota has to offer in in their midsize truck. So yes, really.

Most everything in the county I work for is a dodge truck or charger now. The traffic deputies still use Tahoe’s though. Ford lost them when they X’d the Crown Vic. GSP is using dodge also.

Our dept even went to Ram 1500’s.

I agree with you that people are buying crossovers and suv's nowadays. EVERY maker is seeing a slowdown in their sedans. Even the Camry isn't selling as well as Toyota would like for a new redesign. As far as car companies competing with the Civic and Camry; KIA, Hyundai have both taken a large bite out of their share of the market. I'm not sure what Ford has up their sleeve, but I wouldn't count them out.

I'd be curious to see the sales numbers on the Fusions and Taurus' compared to the Escapes and Explorers. I figure more people are looking at "CUV's" and crossovers more than they're looking at sedans right now. Now that fuel economy is all manufacturers seem to care about, its impressive they're able to get some of these vehicles as high as they are.

I was kind of split on this, but the change is only for the American market. If something happens and they need to start selling cars here again, they will just re-introduce products already being made somewhere else. All they will have to do is shift production to meet emissions and put it on a boat to the the US. Then they can charge more for the car because it gets better mileage and people will still not buy them because Honda/ Toyota/H&K still sell small cars here.
