    A few bolts are different.
I think you're right, either way, it is a dinosaur in comparison to others. The one thing it has a leg up on is it is pretty much the only "compact" size truck left.

Well i had a '99 Ranger and a '00 Ranger before I had my Tacoma and just like Dark Knight said i'll never go back... The Tacoma just drives better, is more comfortable, gets better gas mileage, and is an overall better looking truck than the Ranger IMO. My Ranger's 4.0 had 160 hp and got like 14-15 mpg and my Tacoma's 3.4 has 190 hp and gets like 16-17 mpg. Can't argue with those numbers...

My Taco was made in Calif. Both trucks have parts from all over the world. Has your gilfriend and her family thought about how high the resale value is with the Tacoma compared to a pos ranger?

    I put gas in it...
98% of Fords are still on the road today...

...the other 2% made it home.

I owned an '01 Ranger Edge single cab with the 3.0L V6 5 speed stick, and my Tacoma is leaps and bounds better.

I would list what it better on the Tacoma, but I'll just list what I liked better about the Ranger instead.

    - It was way cheaper

I had a 99 Ranger, I replaced it with a 08 Tacoma. I will say that the Ranger was a great truck. The transmission was easy to shift and I never had any mechanical problems with it. After an accident with a deer, I was able to put it back together cheaply and easily and drove it for a number of years afterwards. I would still be driving it if I didn't have represent my company to clients and gov. officials, as it is not the prettiest thing on the road now.

I bought the Tacoma as I was looking at full sized trucks, but found it in the mean time for a steal. It is quite a bit larger (especially in the cab) than the Ranger.

All in all I would say that the Ranger is a great little truck, but it not really in the same size class of the Tacoma. The current gen Tacoma is now closer to the size of the older gen Tundra so it is not really a fair comparison.

The Tacoma has more room for maneuvering.
