Maybe I read the article wrong but it has nothing to do with vehicle production and more to do with hybrid powertrain technology for which Toyota has mastered and Ford wants to get involved in.

When the Ford bought out Jaguar, the Jags looked like the Taurus. But with a higher price tag. :( Lexus needs a luxury truck. Wonder if that's going to affect that line.

Added extra awesomeness to its original awesomeness.
Yeah, no one needs to get worked up, they aren't going to start making Toyorda's, it is just working together to develop the technology. In the end, Ford will have their trucks and Toyota will have theirs, with some of the same basic function, just like Apple and Microsoft.

    j/k. :D

And to those who hate Ford, I used to think they were junk as well, but my last vehicle was an Escape Hybrid and it was pretty sweet. Never had one problem with it, ever.

I think people are too caught up in brand loyalty!

Toyota and Chevrolet for some time worked together building cars side by side at the NUMMI plant. Notice the similarities between the Nova (1985-1988) and Corolla as well as the Matrix and the Pontiac Vibe.

People see hybrid and immediately think gas engine + batteries + electric motors. I see in the truck market a diesel electric hybrid. Ford has done well recently with their diesel engines and Toyota has done very well with their electric motors. I would not be the least bit surprised to see a diesel electric hybrid come out of this.

Before everyone goes and slams Ford I'll put this out there. When Alan Mulally took over as CEO he was driving a Lexus LS430 and said that it was the "finest car in the world". Look at what he has managed to do with that company. Take a look at some postings from a Mustang forum from 5 years ago. Look at post number 6 in the thread

Exactly. They really learned their lesson after being bit by the last few rounds of crap diesel engines from International.

    As for the joint partnership...
