Found a 5-mile 4WD road from 49 to 12. FS map doesn't show any gates.

Just in and out usually. We’d eat lunch down there but that’s about it.

Say Tom and Nick say hello. He’ll get to meet the new guy this year, Dave.

Noticed route 54 does that cut through also, that might be the one I was thinking of.
Been a few years doing these cut throughs from Downievile to Bowman.

Sometimes them side shoots off the main dirt roads are a hit n miss, due to logging also.

Killer shots man! I’ve been trying to get up there before the snow disappears but works taken 100% of my time lately. Hit me up if you want company next time. There’s a few TWers from Redding and we’ve been trying to get out and hit more trails! I’ll keep an out for your truck around town

For sure that would be awesome man. The snow up there is pretty much gone by now, we were out there last weekend and there were a few small patches but they are gone now due to the heat. I'll be looking around for you as well

I’ll be up there exploring this coming weekend. Lassen put up a list of where the snows still at. Going to hope to still find a little.

I usually head past Lassen toward Thousand Lakes wilderness and roam around out there. This year there was a good amount of snow which is where I got my good pictures. There are a ton of forestry roads and logging roads that go everywhere out there. Plus it's an awesome place to just explore, camp and do some shooting. Just like @dskakie said we should make some sort of trip out there sometime. Oh and dont let me forget this!.... I was up there in the Thousand Lakes wilderness around January time frame this year and saw this! PicsArt_12-27-08.25.54.jpg So rad!!! I was out in the evening by myself on this fire road quite a ways back there starting a camp fire and out of nowhere this guy snuck up on me. I didnt even hear him until he was about 50 yds away. I got this strange feeling something was watching me and then I stand up and there he was glaring at me. I was lucky enough to get a picture of him, first time I've ever seen a Wolf in the wild.

Awesome man! I'll have to get something going on here and try to get a run organized. I think it would be much better during the winter season so that everyone can experience the snow and get out there and have a great time.

Definitely wanna check it out in the winter. But not opposed to one a bit sooner! I'm in Redding as well..

Let me get some things together and map out some routes and stopping points. I might even go out there and do a run before hand. If you see me driving around dont hesitate to throw out a wave! I'll do the same.

Once when I had a roadside issue in the middle of a trail out in Lassen I kept hearing something walk around me but couldn’t see anything. Needless to say that was a quick beer and fix whatever I broke to gtfo

That’s so rad man!! It truly is pretty wild out that way, we’re fortunate to be so relatively close to it for sure. I’ve admittedly not been out to Thousand Lakes area but a google maps search looks real promising! Been to Burney and Lassen a lot so not sure why we’ve never ventured to that huge expanse in between! Shit I’m in Palo Cedro so it’s even closer for me hahaha. I’m down for day trips or overnights whenever, I just work kinda weird hours (shift work on nights usually working Sun-Tues).

@fenrir2012TRD had mentioned a coast run sometime in June maybe we can do a eastern Shasta County shakedown beforehand! Or at least a meetup somewhere and grab some beers

I'd be up for a Lassen-area get together... if it was through the week. I work weekends, but with enough notice I could take time off.

For the guys asking about Mono / Bodie areas we camped at a nice primitive spot right on the Nevada / California border northeast of Bodie, on the dirt road leading out, last year. The next morning we explored a ton of two track dirt above Mono and then some of the sand roads around Mono. IMO it's hard to go wrong anywhere around there but I've only been down there once so I don't have any real local knowledge of other cool stuff.

    Pics from that trip:
