depending on the type of trail you sound like you will fit in around here.
suggestion, sliders and under armor are the most important for the fun trails.fire roads can be done in a Prius.

Anytime man. Sugarpine ohv is decent, plenty of trails for the quad, also have mammoth bar in auburn. Pretty small but it's local and right on the middle fork.

Also off of hwy 20 is parks bar/Timbuktu. Old quarry that has plenty to explore. Just bring a friend and a handgun as I've met some interesting people out there.

    sub'd

And in the interest of contributing without too much disclosure:

FS 5N01 at Niagra Rim but go all the way to the end and then hike out towards Granite Dome. I prefer to hold my breath and free dive for fish but if you are into hard to find species of high sierra trout, this might be a good spot for you ;).

Sour Grass trail off of Hwy4. Turned my 15' around about 1/2 way cause I just wasn't there yet on a truck with less than 2000 miles but should be good to go with skids.

Leavitt Lake off of 108. Any stocker is good to go and the camping is top notch.

Woah guy. Giving up the goods.

I used to drive all the way down to relief, out beyond eagle meadows.

Leavit lake is fun and just hard enough to challenge a truck without causing damage. It's number one on my list for my new truck this year. We'll see if the snowmelt makes it tricky.

Those are the easy ones to find that I am aware of ;)

@Lostsheep thanks for the heads up friend I'll do a little digging and look it up. It's nice to see a little action on this thread. I took a little advice from the thread to keep things quiet but posts like yours is why I started it. So cheers mate.
I just started dropping some pins for a trip when snow starts to melt. I plan to hopefully keep dropping a route on the N to NE side of PNF that leads me into PNF. But right now I'm trying to refine this trip through TNF into PNF. Once I have something longer I'm going to PM some of the salt dogs and run it by them, see if they have any insight on the roads in the area.

North of Clear Lake in Lake county past lake pillsbury to Ruth lake area in humboldt is a great long forest road route. I do it yearly as it is close by, lots of places to pull up your rig and camp last year midsummer I only saw 2 other vehicles in 3 days

Cool man, good find. The entire route is here:

    https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B9-X1MNn2SQnWmtvOHZiaFZKWFk/edit

I was just on a section on the west side of Ruth earlier today with my wife. No go due to a landslide.

We ran up the south end of Devil's Backbone Trail (off of Van Duzen R. Rd) and it was passable but the north end (off Mad River Rock Lookout Rd) is still gated shut. This is a little camping area / pull off right off the first significant hill climb.

I can only imagine the whole route conditions have suffered from the severe storms of late. Will be interesting to see when I run it mid summer, last year I brought a Sawzall and it got me thru a few spots. I might consider a chainsaw this time ...

Thank you for the link i was able to download the route to backcountry navigator/google earth /drive... In the past I would sort of wing it, head N the best i could using regular nav, led to lots of dead ends, locked gates. which were fun and all but this will help!
Last year I took what looked like an unmaintained shortcut well it turned out right before it intersected the main road there was a large tree down across the way. Like 5 ft diameter. Just to get there was a 7 mile single track alot of which was overgrown with dry knee high grass. Was afraid of starting a fire with my hot undercarriage so I kept a good pace through those sections. Of course the grass hid alot of obstacles so it was a crazy and bumpy ride. Had to clear brush and small trees several times. The 18v makita sawsall with a 12" wood blade helped. 7 miles in and I come upon that big tree. So 7 mile retreat. Had to backtrack but found a swimming hole in a creek on the way back. Also saw a cougar run across the track right in front of me.
Wish I had lockers/treds as one section was very narrow and I was worried about sliding off the hill... this is what my bare aluminum ifs skid looked like from all that grass on return

Tons of great information here. I'd totally be down to get involved with a group to do some exploring of the High Sierras or Western Nevada.

I'm looking forward to exploring some mild off roading along the 108 corridor. But I don't want to anything too crazy when I finally get my Tacoma...11 weeks left. Admittedly, I'm a noob when it comes to 4 wheeling, but I've taken cars and trucks to places that would surprise most people.
