Been wanting to drive through that area and camp for a night or two. Sounds like a cool place.

I followed that road on google maps and found a sweet campsite - https://goo.gl/maps/5PhxFkJoFAv

Have you been here? How many rigs can you fit up there?

I have camped up there. It's awesome. No reception, primitive campsites. (No toilets), it's free. Although right now the area may be closed off due to fire damage. Double check with the forest service if it's still closed down. Depending on which site you grab you can get up to two trucks And a couple tents on a site.

Definitely is. First time I went was with my 04 double cab at stock height. One spot got a little tricky and I dented (small dent) the stock running board. But no problem at stock height. And of course to fix my small dent, I found this site and sliders.

I'm glad this thread still has some legs. This last spot looks great. What fire was it that would have ruined the roads? Sobranes fire?

Was just looking down there as well. Got the weekend free was looking there or back to Carrizo. I am leaning toward Carrizo since I have a few sites in mind and a few more roads to explore. Keep in mind the coast can be pretty windy this time of year so camping up on the ridge might be an adventure.

Where is Carrizo? Thanks for the heads up on the wind, I was anticipating that.

Are you going with a group?

Carrizo Plains National Monument - There are two sanctioned camp grounds, but at the foothills of the ridge on either side you can dispersed camp. Lots of mellow dirt roads to explore around - Nothing technical can do most if not all of it in 2wd.
