How many forum members does it take to change a lightbulb?

1 to change the light bulb and to post that the light bulb has been changed

14 to share similar experiences of changing light bulbs and how the light bulb could have been changed differently

7 to caution about the dangers of changing light bulbs

7 to point out spelling/grammar errors in posts about changing light bulbs

5 to flame the spell checkers

    3 to correct spelling/grammar flames

6 to argue over whether it's "lightbulb" or "light bulb" ...

another 6 to condemn those 6 as stupid

2 industry professionals to inform the group that the proper term is "lamp"

15 know-it-alls who claim they were in the industry, and that "light bulb" is perfectly correct

19 to post that this group is not about light bulbs and to please take this discussion to a lightbulb forum

11 to defend the posting to the group saying that we all use light bulbs and therefore the posts are relevant to this group

36 to debate which method of changing light bulbs is superior, where to buy the best light blbs, what brand of light bulbs work best for this
technique and what brands are faulty

7 to post URLs where one can see examples of different light
    bulbs

4 to post that the URLs were posted incorrectly and then post the corrected URL.

3 to post about links they found from the URLs that are relevant
to this group which makes light bulbs relevant to this group

13 to link all posts to date, quote them in their entirety
including all headers and signatures, and add "Me too"

5 to post to the group that they will no longer post because
they cannot handle the light bulb controversy

4 to say "didn't we go through this already a short time ago?"

13 to say "do a Google search on light bulbs before posting questions about light bulbs"

3 to tell a funny story about their beagle and a light bulb

12 to bring up energy conserving lamps.

11 to discuss the environmental impacts of compact fluorescent lamps.

5 to say how they died from mercury exposure contained in some lamps.

2 to prophecy the coming end of incandescent lamps.

3 to say use of lamps during the day is irresponsible.

5 to relate stories about occupancy sensors turning off lamps while they were taking a dump.

1 to bring up Tesla and AC current as related to lamps, and to call Edison a thief.

20 to point out obvious lamp trolls.

5 to post funny LOL lamp pictures.

2 to ask about nutritional values of eating lamps.

10 to ask for the thread to be locked.

1 to bring up the social justice issues related to some lamp manufacturers other products.

6 forum members to create new posts with a slight, but pithy name change. IE "How many Forum members does it take to change a post?"
5 forum members to argue and insult each other
    3 moderators to kick people
4 forum members to threadjack into some totally unrelated personal grudge
2 forum members to post pics of boobs
3 forum members to liberally slather the post with emoticons

2 forum members will post articles on how the replacement of the incandescent bulb is a socialist plot backed by George Soros and Obama.
3 others will post that it's all Bush's fault.
1 forum member will tell another to take his meds.

4 that ask what a lamp is?
3 that claim that they are the fastest light blub changer and that they have youtube videos to prove it
7 that will claim that they don't care, but still post any ways

1 member to take umbrage that the thread was directed at him, and rail at the injustice while expressing a desire for the OP to stick a gun in his mouth then peeling the web site stickers off his car

At least 2 members will post pictures of bacon that were cooked using light bulbs.

1 to post that whilst Edison was indeed a theif, he stole the idea from a British engineer not a Russian one

1 group lurker to respond to the original post 6 months from now
and start it all over again.

    Excerpt:

Forums are to be taken with a grain of salt, because forum people are generally way deep in their particular obsession, which gives them a skewed idea of what’s easy and what’s not. A newbie might post: “Hey I think a piston shot out of my hood and then banshees flew out through the hole and everything’s on fire. Should I go to the dealer?” The forum regular will then reply, “That happened to me the other day it’s a quick fix 20 mins if you go to the dealer ur dum.” That guy’s signature will have a quote from Thomas Jefferson that wasn’t really from Jefferson.

From the January 2015 issue of Car and Driver:
