Is there an on/off switch? If not what does it do when approaching obstacles, bushes or other things that you wish to drive over/bump into?

Interesting question that I hadn't thought of! I also wonder how it works with a plow hooked to the truck.

I believe the sensor is mounted high on the windshield, next to the rearview mirror. So it shouldn't be affected by a plow.
Mercedes has it mounted in the emblem on the grille, but most manufacturers are putting them on the windshields.

As for offroad, the system shuts off at speeds below 7 mph (or is it 10mph?), so as long as you're running over bushes/shrubbery slowly it shouldn't interfere.

Will be interesting to see how it works.

Obviously you have to be able to park in a garage, so there is some form of 'compensation'. Maybe speed related.............

My plan is to avoid owning anything with that stuff on it.

Same here. I'm all for this kind of tech on commuter/daily driver vehicles, but a multirole vehicle like the Tacoma needs to be able to do some weird stuff without a computer getting in the way.

If you are driving into your garage at over 7-10mph with your foot off the brake, you are a braver man than I am.

I have adaptive cruise-control and collision avoidance radar on my Challenger, and it is awesome technology. If your foot is on the brake pedal it disables the system, presumably assuming that you've got it. It also does not operate at very low speeds, sub 10mph or so.

I'd love it if my Tacoma had these systems, but probably won't be trading up my '17 just to get them.

There you go. So my 'speed related' guess was correct. Foot on the brake makes perfect sense.

I'm sure all OEs will have similar parameters.

    Thanks for the input.

The collision avoidance feature and the adaptive cruise control, while presumably using the same radar sensor, operate somewhat differently. Again, I have no idea how other makes/models work, or how Toyota's will, but on the Dodge the ACC will actually brake the car from the set speed, down to about 5mph in appropriate circumstance (like coming up on a line of stopped cars at a light or traffic jam from highway speed) and then shut off. You need to take it from there.

The collision avoidance simply emits a sound and visual cues that you need to BRAKE, doesn't do it for you in this particular car. So you could crash that gate of zombies just fine, you'd just be being screamed at by your car while doing so. I think there are systems that will apply the brakes independent of ACC for you, but mine doesn't. No idea what the new Tacomas will have. Maybe someone with a Toyota with these features could chime in, that might be more helpful.....

Seems to me that this stuff is going to save a lot of rear-enders.

I think the sensor is going in the grill emblem on the Tacoma as well. That's my guess anyways on the change of emblem on the 2018 grill

On my Prius, it could be turned off and there was also a high/medium/low setting as far as sensitivity.

As I lurked and posted here, I have found out that we have some ingenious people here. I have a Backup Camera Anytime switch. Nav Input Anytime switch and the ECT On Mod. I even have an In- Dash garage door opener. All designed by US.

Someone is going to figure out the hack to make this work for us.

On The Subaru system --you could NOT back over them -they have the rear crash prevention system as well as the forward looking system.Subaru does it with stereoscopic cameras. Maybe Toyota will do theirs in a similar manner.

I think you're right. Emblem looks just like my wife's Rav4 who has the same system.
