Good lookin dog. Someones probably lookin for it. I found a dog last year in lucerne comin home from an mdr race with no collar or anything and I kept him. Don't feel bad about keeping it if you can't find the owner. U saved it  here's a picture of the pup I found..

One of the best things you can do is rescue a dog. Good luck with him. Here's a pic of the beagle that my son found on the road, best dog ever.

What a great looking dog! You are doing the right thing by making an attempt to see if the owner has been looking for him. If no one claims him, I say congrats on the new addition to the family. I'm a sucker for dogs and think its great when I hear about someone offering a great home and companionship to a deserving one. Enjoy him. He looks like he is already taking to you........and the truck :)

I agree with the others, do you best to find the owners (chances are they dont exist) Then Micro chip him, name him and try to be the man the dog thinks you are. Dogs change a mans life for the better. They are amazing creatures and even if you grew up with dogs as a kid nothing is the same as your first pup when you are on your own. I love mine more than any girl I have ever met because no matter how late I get home, what I look like, how much money I have made my dog will always jump up and hug me and happy to see me for me. Show me a girl that will do that

He looks like a keeper to me. If nobody call the animal shelter in the week he was without food, why bother calling them again in a few days. If you lost him you would go wild trying to find him!!

    Cheers.

    LOL thanks!

    Thanks didnt think of that!

I'm posting fliers thanks for the advice on no pics!

His name is Red, my mom called him Red and he looked at us so it stuck.

Yeah he loves me he follows me everywhere it was a instant bond.

Parents gave the ok to keep him. If no one claims him

    That makes me smile ^

I would go crazy trying to find my dog if I lost him knocking on doors posting fliers everything!!!!

I called back to the dog pound and left my number just in case, the lady there asked me some questions I answered she said you should probably keep the dog sounds like you already love him.

    It made me smile.

Anyway thanks for all the advice and comments TW is like a family and Im glad to be a part of it, so is Red! :D

id just put something up on craigslist so you have proof you made an effort to find the owners. when you take him to the vet to get him shots since you dont know its history see if it has a chip with the previous owners info on it. if not, you got yourself a nice looking dog.

This thread makes me smile. :) My dog was a rescue from the police shelter (dachshund mix) and she too was a stray and was underweight. Had heartworms, too.

Good for you and your parents for accepting the new addition to the family. I'm guessing that, when life brings you to a point in the future where you're looking for another dog, you look to the shelters first. Rescue dogs are gems - hard to remember life before my dog.

Congrats on the new pal, and here's to a lifetime of love for him. Gotta be the best mod you could have hoped for. :)

YES YES YES YES YES YES

Just because he is skinny and thirsty does not mean the dog does not have a owner, could have been on his own for months. Get the dog scanned for a chip, put an ad in the paper. Then and only then call him your best friend for life. It is a life time commitment. Remember this......

That's a good looking dog. I know I'd be hurt if I lost one of mine but it could be the previous owner couldn't afford to keep the dog anymore and pulled his collar and tags then turned him loose. I just got a pair of Bluetick coonhound pups last summer that a friend of my wife found. Kind of rare up here but now I have a Mother & daughter pair of Black and tans and the Bluetick brothers. The other coonhounds I've had in the past have come from rescues.
I hope your folks let you keep him.

Oh yeah guys dont worry, tomorrow he is getting scanned.

I will make a attempt to find the owner and a good one at that.

Then if a week goes by and no one comes forward then I will call him mine and he will be with me for the rest of his life. or mine whichever comes first.

Edit my fiancee is already talking about buying him a new collar, a bed, toys lol

Told her to wait till a week goes by then if no one claims him we will say ok he is part of our family now.

To be completely honest Im really hoping no one claims him but if they do I understand he is a good dog.

Just a little FYI so you guys know Im legit, I hate thieves I think they should all be put in prison.

Stealing/kidnapping a dog is like kidnapping a child in my eyes so dont think Im going to blow this off trying to find the owner.

Now when I find the owner and if I think the owner mistreats the dog or abuses him I might offer him some $$$ to keep the dog.

    That ^ is another story.

Sadly a lot of people around here who have fallen on rough times - lost jobs etc - have been abandoning their pets and letting them run loose rather than taking them into a shelter. Just another possibility to this pup's mystery.

Give it an honest chance at finding his humans...if your search turns up nothing then I say the pup's lucky to have found you!

What a beautiful pup!! Looks like a golden retreiver mix.

    Coupla of things,

    1. DO NOT post a picture of the dog. There is a market for lost/stray dogs for use in animal testing. These crooks have even been known to steal dogs from fenced yards. They get shipped to big medical testing firms and suffer horrible deaths. Put up a sign with the briefest of details. As others have said, ask them to tell you about him. Particularly his name. He should respond to that.

    2. Find a Vet who can scan for chips (someone else mentioned this also). That is one step in finding his owner, if there is one. If no chip, get one. Get him tested for intestinal worms and heart worms. Then get him on preventatives ASAP.

    3. Hope that no one is missing him, he looks like a sweet heart. No dog wants to live alone, they are pack animals.

Good luck. Rescue dogs are the best cuz they know what it's like out there!!

Thanks will do, I was laying in bed reading a book and he jumped up on the bed and put his face on my shoulder and just gave me one of those looks.

Felt the love off that one even if I do find his owner I'll always remember that.
