Could be, but you usually can't feel the brake pad slap in the floorboard, and it's usually just the first stop in either direction...for some reason.

Gonna install the ES body mount kit and shock tower buffer to see if it will kill my clunking and rattling.

What are the part numbers for those? I need to look into that.

On a side note...I was able to get it to clunk in 4HI today over a specific spot in the parking lot at work. Did some more Googling and found cases where people report the same clunking symptoms and the cause was bad lower ball joints. They were side-specific...the LBJ on the clunking side was bad. The normal ball joint checks (trying to move the top/bottom of the wheel in/out) didn't show excessive play.

Since mine's gotten worse, I may jack up the front and see if there's any ball joint movement in the wheel. I'm considering getting the Moog ball joints and having them on hand to do the replacement when I get a chance to do the ECGS bushing.

If only the Total Chaos LCAs weren't $1500...

How tough is it to install new body mount bushings? Is there a DIY? I've never even considered it (or checked to see what shape mine are in). At what kind of mileage should you start thinking about replacing them?

I just started last night and only got the front two done. I got stumped on the four under the cab. It is easy enough to get the main bolts out but I think I have to lift the cab a bit higher to change the drop-in bushings which sit on a plate bolted from the top. I was afraid to lift any more without thinking about what all was connected.

I think 200K is a good time to think about body mounts. Mine area all cracked and dry rotted. I'm taking pictures to I might do a writeup when I finish.

Well, good news and bad news for an update...

I had a window of opportunity to do my ECGS bushing install. Had to go with a blind hole puller from AutoZone instead of the ECGS removal tool, but removal wasn't bad after I got the puller positioned correctly. So the good news is, no more needle bearing vibes.

While I was under there, with the outer CV removed from the spindle (well, the entire axle removed from the truck) I went ahead and pressed in a new lower ball joint. After reading that ball joints can appear to be good, pass the wheel shake test and actually be going bad, I thought a $40 part wasn't too bad to try. I had read that they can exhibit a clunk, like something knocking against the floorboard when the suspension cycles. My symptoms had gotten bad to the point where going straight when the suspension cycled would clunk.

More good news is that the really bad clunking has gone away. The bad news is there's still slight clunking.

By "slight" I mean, when I turn I can feel it and hear it, but it's light. So like someone tapping on the floorboard, not banging on it. This leads me to believe that my driver's side lower ball joint was going bad. When I felt the old joint, I could move the stud very easily. It was smooth, but was too easy to move compared to the new part.

Now...the clunking that still remains... It's on both sides, both sound equal in terms of severity, and now I'm thinking upper ball joints. I have stock UCAs and the ball joints look ok, but they're sitting at EXTREME angles. I think next on my list is going to be swapping the UCAs for SPC adjustable ones. It'd be interesting to see if someone with aftermarket UCAs can solve their clunk with new lower ball joints.

Nothing worse than going over small consecutive bumps and feeling shit moving underneath your feet and feeling the clunk in your steering wheel. All I did was add a different fucking coil and shock, not fucking rocket science. Now add that to the headrest rattle, vibrating passenger seat rattle, weatherstripping crackling in your ears from the passenger and drivers side. Fucking joke for all the money you pay for these things. The fucking truck is brand new and looking at all the shit you have to go through to find this little annoying clunk. To me fuck it and trade it in

Can't find a more capable truck...that's not 3rd gen Taco with probably the same issues.

UCAs will be switched out next. I definitely think the noise is caused by ball joints. Now the question is...which one(s) are bad now?

Maybe your noise is ball joints, mine are all brand new. And the clunk is felt under the truck. Summer is coming and time to break out the torque wrench

I have the vibrating passenger seat, very minor headrest rattle, weatherstrip crackling and the clunk I can't identify. Most of this stuff usually occurs all at once while driving over some bullshit, and makes the truck feel like a $20 Little Tikes kids foot powered car. Not even those rattle and clunk nearly as much as this damn shit does!

After spending $33,000 on this fucking truck this is the kind of fucking crap that makes me want to burn this motherfucker to the ground and collect the insurance money. I hope Toyota reads this and knows what I think about their damn truck (not that they give a fuck). These are the kind of issues and failures you can expect when you become complacent in your manufacturing standards.

Same here that headrest rattle is killer to the ears! So effing annoying until someone sits passenger then the noise goes away. Also I've just said fuck it with the clunk. It's been like that since the icon lift was added. Sometimes I miss being stock haha!

    Whoa! Easy with the pitchforks.

I didn't mean to incite a riot. @Unchained 5150, you have new lower ball joints, too?

I'm not sure what the hell the deal with mine is. I've got skids bolted up, brand new control arms and their respective uniballs, brand new shocks all around, all is tight. I don't get it! You've seen all the stupid shit I have on mine and it just always makes noise like a cheap piece of shit. It's so annoying and aggravating. If it was race truck noises, ok, I get it. I have a lot of stuff on there, but this stuff is full on clunks like something is going to fall out.

    SPC?

Reading up on uniballs. Sounds like guys in the salt states don't like em from a durability standpoint, but here in the south they may thrive with just typical required maintenance. That and I don't "wheel it" hard.
