I’m not too worried about the plate, it’s on public display. Vin is not.

I would hope that they are similar to Ford in that if you come in for keys and don’t have the original with you they require photo ID and proof of registration of the vehicle showing it’s yours before they will cut them.

Glad your vehicle was returned, i had one stolen many years ago, got it back weeks later intact. I was more afraid of Dirty Mike and the boys doing a soup kitchen in it.

Moving forward, I'd never want a stolen vehicle returned, they can keep it.

I’ve experimented and this placement of the club makes it much more difficult for it to be removed. The wheel can’t be rotated to a position which would allow any drilling or manipulation of the lock. So they would have to either cut the bar with something noisy, or a very big bolt cutter but in videos that’s damn difficult Or cut the steering wheel which damages the truck and takes much longer and requires lots more visibility than a quick grab.

"One of his detectives told him the thief was looking to see if it was gas or diesel, which helped him figure out which type of car to select on a piece of software on his phone. They also believe the thieves are punching in the car’s vehicle identification number to get it started".

It's never ending in the creativity that theives use to steal your vehicle. Funny how we are back to the good old Club to help deter the Fu*kers.

Lol yeah, I was just talking to my wife about that in the article as well. I couldn't believe that the relay attack is now considered old school! I already turn off my FOB all the time. Considering a club and covering my VIN. And yes if all else fails insurance. But what a bloody hassle and a waste of ones time as the OP had to go through.

I stopped covering my VIN in Massachusetts, they put the VIN on our emissions/safety sticker.

It is also mentioned that AirTags are being actually used by thieves! It looks like they spot a target car in a shopping mall parkade and follow it home where it could be more convenient to steal it.......

"The force has also recently found Apple AirTags tracking devices hidden on five cars -- in the trailer hitch, within the gas tank or the front grill."

Or just rushed and doesn't do the complete job including the carding if so..

Ideally yes. Long ago the building manager where I worked had his car stolen, the dummy left it running and went in the store so I didn't feel that bad. Bought it new 6 months prior and basically now has a car he knows nothing about.

Yet another dumb thing they do here without thinking

That one in the gas tank would be a bitch for sure. Surprised it could last long being immersed in fuel. Didn’t think they were water proof.

The foreign air tag would show up on my iPhone but I’d never suspect the gas tank as a hiding spot. :annoyed:

Maybe they meant in the gas door since its not locked, easy to get to.. and has some hiding room in it. :D

That would make sense and another place to look if I found my truck “tagged”.

Not familiar with the size of the tag but I can see the door being an option yup, or if you could reach the side/top of tank underneath and stick it on somehow

The tag is slightly larger than a quarter. If you know about Canadian coinage, it’s the size of a loonie. :rasta:

Yeah that would be easy to hide, perhaps in the back of the fuel door is what I was thinking the original comment meant
